We were probably always going to send Olly at some point. I'd say the much bigger danger going forward is exactly how awful an experience he had on stuff he's had to go back on, and the potential damage to his fan base. I don't see Rina gladly entering now.

I like that we did something bold and I stand by that. But in the cold light of failure, it's fine to question the judgement of the creators.

I personally found Olly and the whole presentation very nice indeed. He sang better than in the semi-final and I really liked his vibe and everything.
Just because a song doesn't do well points-wise on ESC doesn't mean it's bad or anything.
When I first heard the song I was extremely underwhelmed, but it came to life live on stage.
And Olly seems like a really lovely human being.

Yeah this has set back the Rina cause by at least a decade :(

Also I think it's clearer than ever that even if Steps COULD be persuaded it'd probably be a washout :D

It wouldn't surprise me entirely if it was another internal selection next year, someone like Natasha Bedingfield who is having a mini career revival, or Sophie Ellis-Bextor ( :eyes: )

I think anyone with any sort of career would be insane to take part. Send another Sam Ryder with a good THERAPIST in tow.

I don’t get the obsession with the act itself. It’s not like every country is sending their local Rosalia every year.

CRYING!

To be honest, this was anything but a family friendly performance, and I can understand some people being really uncomfortable watching this. And it's not about being too gay, it would be the same with straight sex. It was raunchy.

I think we're giving it a pass because it was gays. Obviously it didn't remotely offend me, but it alluded to very specific genres of gay porn with the subtlety of ISIS. Not that there's anything wrong with porn, but TIME and PLACE.

There's a Buzzfeed "Gay Porn or Eurovision" quiz waiting to happen. I mean...

There were some people here, even famous singers, saying the male Spanish dancers were too raunchy and they didn't want to watch Eurovision with their kids and see something like that () I just can't imagine what they thought of UK :D

The more I think about it (zero, ZERO) I am astonished. I was completely excepting an underwhelming 11 or similar but that fact that it didn’t catch on anywhere at all. Wow.

That being said, other entries in not dissimilar form (Austria, Slovenia) hardly soared either and were probably better performed.

Also, as far as I am aware, it is still broadly the same UK delegation is the days of ‘Embers’?

Same. The 18th place itself whilst disappointing isn't much of a story, it feels about right in the context of the night- but fuck all from the public stings

Although with more time since the contest I can see how watching songs on the night from outside of the fandom from the likes of UK
(and to a large degree I think Spain as well)...the average view might go..."eh?"

i also think it's just not want the average viewer WANTS or EXPECTS from the UK

I fully believe that the EVIL H & Claire would do it without telling the others and that this reunion last year was a test run.

Warning: contains live sound of a gay’s bussy in rapid decomposition which may cause distress to some viewers.

This actually did better than I expected. Most people would be hearing this for the first time, there’s no strong hook, the vocals were barely there.

I get that - and I do think most people accept that we are at a disadvantage, for a variety of reasons.

But we were at an advantage until the 90s when everyone sang in their native language. So... I don't really care that we're at a disadvantage now.

‘but what is the audience seeing right now?’ was said at one point here as well. Though does that really have an actual impact on how well a song does in the end? Nah.

Yep we had the same conversation. 'How does this actually work in the arena? It must look really stupid'.

It wasn't every year until then, but yes.

And that was a HUGE part of why people like Wogan had such a sense of entitlement around us doing well - because we achieved positions far better than we should have done with some real shit.

I don’t think how it looks in the arena matters. The jury see what the public sees. Greece in 2021 was all blue screen and looked crap in the arena.
