Lots of buzz around this, written and directed by Anthony Perkins' son (and David from Legally Blonde (!) Apparently a terrifying turn by Nicholas Cage, but I found the trailer very effective, especially in the cinema.

Well that was camp Mama. The cheek of those marketing people calling this the scariest movie of the year! :weed:
This went from a bad Silence of the Lambs rip-off to something straight out of a bad season of American Horror Story, with Nic Cage doing his best Bufallo Bill impression in Pete Burns drag. Unbelievable!

Yes I've heard it's definitely not what they've been advertising :D I have to wait till Sunday and I can't wait!

I just had to look up whether Oz Perkins is gay, but apparently he's straight (well he's married to a woman). Could have fooled me, everything about this movie felt queer, from the laughably bad dialogue and OTT acting to that delightfully campy doctor in the asylum.

I saw this back to back with In a Violent Nature, two not even remotely scary movies, entertaining, but not scary.
I haven't seen In a Violent Nature, is it really entertaining? It sounds so boring, just a killer walking around, with the occasional gory bit thrown in? I've seen a clip of the yoga kill, which was pretty outrageous in fairness...

The lack of atmosphere with no music and little dialogue means the viewer doesn't have to endure the stupidity of the characters, so when they die, it's quite satisfying.

To think I let the glowing reviews trick me into thinking this might be a Hereditary style modern horror classic :D

Entertaining, but utter trash. The scariest element was Alicia Witt's WIGS.

I bought tickets for this and am going on a first Grindr meet to see it on Thursday. This is not something I’ve done before, I hope it’s not crap.

I LOVED this but yes lock the marketing team up for FRAUD!!

Tempted to 6 it, but Cage's birthday girl theatrics had me scoffing and Witt just being on screen have it firmly on the 7.

I am YET to see this. Will it better than TRAP?!?!

What a disappointing failure this was. I thought the setting and mood established in the first part were excellent - very 1990's X-Files Monster of the Week episode or Silence of the Lambs. Maika Monroe really should be in more things. That scene early on with Longlegs entering her character's house had me on edge.
And then the screenplay decided to drop everything that was good including the protagonist's intriguing psychic abilities (what were they for then?) There also was way too much explanation for that stupid ending.

Yes, I kind of enjoyed the atmospheric first half or so of the film but totally lost interest when the genre changed and it decided to be two films in one. I struggled with Nicholas Cage too. Oh and I wasn’t keen on the guy I went on a date with it to, he had very garlicky breath so I couldn’t talk directly to him.
