Do we definitely think this will be proper huge? I'm not the biggest Wicked fan so could well be skewed, but I love a big musical film adaptation and here I'm struggling to get past how unappealing the lead casting is to me. Like, WHY ARE THEY A DECADE TOO OLD?

There's a clip of The Wizard and I at 8m40s here, and I keep having to remind myself she's not Elphaba's mum or some other middle-aged witch



Although I'm pleasantly surprised by the production design there - it's not the obvious CGI mess I feared from some of the trailers.

I think Moana 2 could give it some serious competition. The release window is kind of stacked at the moment. Thankfully Paddington In Peru wasn’t that good and I don’t think Gladiator 2 has much of a crossover audience.

But yes, Cynthia’s casting has been my only drawback so far :(

Probably. But it's a very MUSICAL musical, and it's only half the show!

I've banned myself watching anymore clips after seeing Galinda first meeting Fiyero at Shiz. It was actually very good, but I need some surprises!

I hope I won’t. I keep thinking that this must be what it feels like to be a football fan.
 
The marketing is EVERYWHERE. Any store I’ve been in lately had a massive amount of merchandise.
 
it will hit a billion dollars easily. currently projected for a $100-130m opening weekend in the US.
 
Just watched this on Sky Max, and have got myself into quite a state of anticipation.

 
It really is. Shame a few people are missing. I would have loved to see Dianne Pilkington there, and of course Helen Dallimore.

 
I’m really excited to see this now. I’ve never seen any version of the show so this will be my first time seeing anything except the big numbers that pop up on social media.
 
Review embargo lifted at 11pm. RAVES RAVES RAVES across the board surely?
 
Reviews range from mixed to masterpiece apparently. No negatives. Biggest praise is for Ariana….
 
Ariana is getting all the raves. Campaigning her in Supporting is definitely going to benefit her chances.

11:20am at an IMAX on Friday. I did consider cancelling and booking the BFI IMAX at 10:30am, but it would cost an extra £20 :(

Shocked by how many people have already seen it around the world though.

Robbie Collin is always SANS FUN in everything he likes, so that’s a winning endorsement for me.
 
Saw a preview of this last night and loved it. Only seen the stage show once about 15 years ago, so memory of it not the best, but I enjoyed the film more. Both the leads were excellent and I was surprised by how good Ariana is. The pacing dropped a bit midway through but it didnt feel overly long. The last 20 minutes in particular were executed brilliantly. Feels like a classic... oh and I loved the cameos!
 
The 6/10 review from the BBC is something. The whole thing would have been improved if they’d cut the sections about the talking animals and Elphaba’s sister apparently :D
