Christmas Traditions

Hitting up the cheese queue at the local deli, on about the 22nd or 23rd is a fairly new but favourite tradition.

Me and Mr Ag have an Eve Eve meal of our choosing. Normally a fancy camembert, or a charcuterie board. Although I think we're having party treats this year.

Then the family shit kicks off. Normally we go to Mersea Island to pick up the fresh fish, although me and Mr Ag are out this year for reasons :(

And then the Polish fish supper at dusk.

After that it's just the same old stuff as everyone.

Although we'd recently added the family coming over on the 28th with their food, combined with ours and finished off as much as we can.

Leave all the Christmas lights on overnight on Christmas Eve (or Santa won’t know where to come)
Not even being snarky, but doesn’t everyone leave the Christmas lights on constantly for like 3 weeks? That seems to be the case

Not here. I mean on the tree etc.

Mandy and I always took a "family selfie" on Christmas day with us and the pets. But we have no pets now so no longer have a tradition :(

I like to stuff my gran and pour a drink for the turkey.

I haven't done it for a while, but Christmas was the one time a year I'd allow myself to just cut the corner off a family sized carton of Ambrosia Custard and drink it watching tv. And then this happened:

...and a friend put it on a tshirt and I thought I'd probably better stop. :D

I watch Black Christmas (1974) every Christmas Eve (except for 2023 when it was on at the cinema the week before so I watched it then instead)

Me too. Cosy, festive and creepy at the same time.
I also have to watch three Roseanne Christmas episodes (I skip the one from season 9).
On the 23rd I'm usually back home with my parents and always go to the Christmas market with my best friends from school.

I have never particularly chosen to watch particular films or TV shows at Christmas, least of all horror.

I do pop on a bit of Fanny Craddock as standard.

I watch It's A Wonderful Life at the local theatre every year, but this year they're not screening it. There's a showing at the Vue on Sunday, but I'm going to be OFF MY BAPS on Saturday night, so I doubt I'll make it.

The Holiday never plays well here due to the Cary Grant lie. Every year there are articles about it.

Family gets together in Toronto these days. Private Christmas Eve dinner, morning church mass, followed by presents, and then some kind of church lunch.

I love the quiet intimate parts of Christmas the most.

Called our favourite neighbour lady in the island to wish merry Christmas and she described a Bulgarian tradition called budni vecher she held yesterday that I plan to copy for next year. So on Xmas eve they only make vegan dishes but the overall dishes prepared have to be an odd number, there is a list of what vegan dishes you can make if you're short of ideas, bread has to be handmade and at the end they leave the table with one plate of every dish served for their dead. The food is only taken away from the table the next morning where they can now break their fasting and cook new meals where everything goes.

Sounds complicated.

Good luck x
