Bought a new turntable yesterday. My old Sherwood belt drive was struggling so, after 23 1/2 years service, it has been retired for a new Audio-Technica direct drive turntable. So yesterday was spent setting it up and auditioning various records to get it sounding right. A solemn changing-of-the-guard in some ways. Longest lasting piece of kit I've ever had but it wasn't stable any more because the belt was worn so it wasn't holding speed properly - it was difficult to get it right and then it wouldn't stay there, slipping faster or slower after a minute or so.
