Braverman is a a complete twat ofc (and that's being generous), but fwiw as sb of broadly similar heritage and cultural capital, I've never identified with being English either (except when it comes to football where I have no choice, eh). Maybe because British has always felt like the more inclusive umbrella term, and there's a certain safety net offered by that - less questioning of an identity that's precarious and constantly subject to micro-aggressions, if not much worse. That said, I abhor the idea of tethering demonyms to ethnicity and find the discourse initiated by that podcast hella troubling given the present socio-political context. Suella being self-hating is accurate af but it'd be nothing more than cringeworthy were it not for her actively going out there and fanning the flames with shit like this. Hate it. Hate her.
