You love to hate MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
You hate meeeeeeee

( Instrumental Breakdown )

I became a Notorious Being

💀

I’m going to have to pick up another vinyl copy today from an old fashioned store to post on my insta I don’t care take my money Mother

if I have one critique it's that the harder/more industrial segment at the beginning (where funky gave every song a token 4) needed an additonal song or two. Disease is too fucking good.

I think I may die at the MAYHEM BALL as she vocally ascends over the course of Perfect Celebrity

I also need a music video NOW. YOU ARE THE VISUALS STEFANI.

It sounds like a collection of b-sides, not in a bad way because there are some great bops (How Bad Do U Want Me, Don’t Call Tonight etc) but in a way that there isn’t really a cohesive album sound. Sounds like she blew the dust off some old demos ranging from Pre-Fame up to today. Not complaining because it’s better than Chromatica already!

I've had a second full listen (ok I skipped the last 2)

10 Disease
12 Abracadabra
12 Garden of Eden
10 Perfect Celebrity
07 Vanish Into You
08 Killah (feat. Gesaffelstein)
09 Zombieboy
08 LoveDrug
12455 How Bad Do U Want Me :disco::disco::disco:
08 Don't Call Tonight
09 Shadow of a Man
08 The Beast
04 Blade of Grass
01 Die With a Smile

How Bad Do U Want Me has been on loop since yesterday. Just EXCELLENT. Reheating Taylor's nachos and making a MICHELIN STARRED DISH with them

Now that I already know it wasn't what I expected, I can enjoy Shadow of a Man for what it actually is, which is rather good. Though still need a remix to elevate it to the 12 that's in there

Specifically what TS nachos did she reheat for How Bad Do U Want Me? Is it the horrendus This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things?

honestly so disappointed in fucking ZEN of all people choosing THAT as his song to stan. like what.

Don’t Call Tonight stands out for me. :disco: 👏 It’s one of those tracks where the verses are better than the chorus.

So for me it's no Chromatica, BUT my first impressions are positive. I think the middle section has some excellent growers with a melancholy tinge.

Faves after first listen are How Bad Do U Want Me and Perfect Celebrity.

Only negative would be it feels like an album where the 3 singles are tagged on. I wonder whether she wrote Disease during lockdown, Abracadabra writes itself, and then DWAS as a completely separate project and the last couple of tracks are just serving to transition between the Mayhem sound to the DWAS sound. I don't know the actual timescale though

I thought 'Vanish Into You' was going to be a lull but then the synthy synths kicked in.

The Gesaffelstein song is funkier and Princier than I expected. The crescendo is kind of what I expected the whole song to sound like.

It took me ages to realise she wasn’t singing ”You love the fat girl I got in me” in How Bad Do You Want Me :D

Where are the jazz standards? Where are the "Great" American Songbook rehashes? Where is Tony Bennett from beyond the grave? Where is Colby O'Donis pretending to be Sinatra?

7/10

Zombieboy: what if Gwen Stefani's Hallow app malfunctioned and she embraced Satan?
