Are Londoners unfriendly?

I feel like there are different versions of unfriendly and Londoners are both, to be honest!

The first is just general chat and friendliness with strangers in public… this does not happen, of course. People treat you with suspicion, although I find this is probably with good reason.

The other aspect is in terms of making friends with people - again, I find people are lovely once you get to know them but will often keep you at arms length a bit at first.

God I love LIVERPOOL. Nothing compares. There’s a real sense of community and friendliness there.

Welsh people, particularly North Wales are not approachable. At least to the English, they’re actively rude.
Totally agree with this! North Wales was one of the most unfriendly places I've ever been.

The rest of Wales is lovely.

the good people of North Wales may be somewhat TERSE toward english tourists (to say the very LEAST) but the scenery of Snowdonia is my favourite in the uk. we had a log cabin so I spent a lot of my childhood summers in and around Porthmadog, Caernarfon, Llanberis etc and I still miss it a lot.

I know of 2 people who moved to North Wales to retire, despite no previous connections to the place. They’re both quite difficult people and like to be secluded from others, which is fine by the rest of us.

I love Caernarfon. Going in October. Rude North Wales people won’t put me off

I have a good friend from Flint. She and her friends and family are certainly friendly but maybe not as immediately approachable as northerners/scottish/irish people.

TRUE BLACKPOOL FUN FACT - in most of the UK, Challenge 25 operates, which is when if you are lucky enough to look under 25, you are asked for ID when purchasing goods like alcohol. Because the people of Blackpool do not generally (how do I say this?) ... age well, the town operates Challenge 30.

I am in the I’m not unfriendly but please I just want to listen to and focus on the latest Kelly Llorenna album on my commute in peace without being disturbed and tbh I’m not great at conversation anyway camp.

I loved living in London and was shell -shocked when I moved to Paris .. now I think it’s more or less the same tbh, although Londoners are on the whole more respectful, less aggressive than Parisians

This is funny because I made a whole point of harping on about how insanely friendly everyone was when back round these parts recently. I spent more time in London than anywhere else but I hit up other places referenced in this thread (Paris, Amsterdam, the SOUTH) and I genuinely feel that people were lovelier and more gregarious than I ever remember. Like, everywhere! I think I was especially taken aback because it had been so damn long and reading the news had conditioned to me believe that y'all had become miserable gits openly spewing racist/misogynistic/homophobic/transphobic/TORY bile so I was all primed for VERBAL BATTLE with anyone that dared direct an untoward glance my way, but it turned out that the only point at which I properly mouthed off was when silencing some Spanish tía who'd seemingly never heard of earphones during a particularly arduous bus ride to HOVE.

People being super nice was doubly bewildering because my own upbringing taught me to manufacture personal space AT ANY COST and my modus operandi is therefore to march around life at breakneck speed whilst clad in rags, stinking of booze, and sporting a perma-frown. Perhaps I just scared everyone. :(

Anyway, my tuppence is that Londoners/southerners/Parisians/the Dutch are all a lot more pleasant than they get credit for and I love 'em all. Sorry! </toxicpositivity>
