Was The Greatest Showman a big movie? I feel like I’m being gaslit because I have no recollection of it existing.

After opening with £2.58m, The Greatest Showman took more than £1m on 12 consecutive weekends, an almost unheard-of feat. Twelve weeks after its opening weekend, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, by far the biggest release of December, took just £763, largely because it had pretty much left cinemas. We have to wind back two decades to find films with such staying power; in 1997, Titanic took at least £1m for 12 weeks, while The Full Monty achieved that for an unmatched 13 weeks. Only last weekend did The Greatest Showman dip below the £1m mark. Fox is now promoting its digital release next month; the DVD follows in May.

If it doesn't exist and wasn't a smash, why would Hollywood have decided to put Zendaya in every film made since?

The Greatest Showman was HUGE and I am NOT here for some alternative NARRATIVE where this monkey SHITE is anywhere near that level

Call it a SMEAR CAMPAIGN

FINE

Gloves are OFF!

Really shows how tragic things are when we need Suomi to be the VOICE OF REASON.

Thank you, here is my review for those Curious Georges (contains spoilers)

For centuries, humans have wondered how to get one over on their chimpanzee forefathers, and this film tackles this important topic head on. For the casual viewer, Better Man is best summarised as a classic tale of man vs monkey, soundtracked to the songs of Robbie Williams.

Williams stars as one of the main monkeys, singing monkey versions of his hits songs such as Angel and She’s The One. Unlike true monkeys, much of this film is not set in the jungle making it incomparable to films such as The Jungle Book.

Homo Sapiens are probably the only primates with developed enough attention spans to sit through this film, which is a shame because there are some comedic parts which I’m sure a family of northern white-cheeked gibbons would enjoy, for example.

Overall, this film asks more questions than it answers. Although I did not enjoy watching this film, I would still say it is one of the better monkey-centric films set to the music of Robbie Williams out there, so if that is a genre that you love then go ahead and let this film entertain you.

@Suomi i was hoping you would mention how it fits into the Planet Of The Apes canon.

I think it’s somewhere between the first and third movies, but it probably depends on whether you count the Marky Mark Wahlberg one or not.

The film appears to be getting some lift off in its second weekend at the US Box Office…

Oh wait no, it fell 76% to 250k - and that’s whilst being screened in over 1000 locations.

The entire Rock DJ sequence has now been released by the studio and it looks fantastic. The problem that remain is that it is 1. Still Robbie Williams, 2. Still Robbie Williams, 3. Robbie Williams as a monkey.

Fun fact: the day they were meant to film that originally the Queen died so they had to re-book the road closure, rehearsal time, and all the actors and extras. They're not scraping those pennies back :(

Saw this again tonight (in a packed cinema incidentally) and liked it even more on second viewing :disco:

@Ellie, @Christian and anyone else waiting for streaming, I’d recommend trying to see it on the big screen while still possible. It really is a CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE.

It was Could It Be Magic.
Yeah, I misremembered. Point still stands though.

I hope how brilliant it is outlives the dismal box office stats and ill-informed sneers from certain quarters. Embarrassing.

9/10

I have a friend who saw it for the second time last night, and he said it was busier the second time as well.

I love Taylor Tomlinson, she's absolutely priceless. One of the funniest around.

Watched it now due to the nomination.

I don’t know why it’s been nominated for visual effects. It’s not that impressive and I STILL don’t know where the budget went.

Very enjoyable though. I think I’d have liked it better if I was a fan of his music, and even though the chimpanzee makes him seem more sympathetic, he’s still a knob! You understand why he’s a knob, but it doesn’t make him any less annoying. But the self deprecation in the commentary is very whimsical.

Thought it was funny that the only Take That songs used were the covers and one of the only originals that Gary didn’t write.

It only takes a minute girl
