France 2025: Louane - maman

Remember though that France does have a tendency to overplay its hand slightly. Remember the hype they created around the La Zarra reveal? And they shut the Eiffel bloody Tower to film Tom Leeb’s song reveal.

Whereas Voila was chosen in a fairly run of the mill national final and Mon Amour was just casually flung out onto streaming in mid-November.

I’m just very very cautiously observing the build-up to this.

True, but they've also been very close recently(2021 - 2nd, 2024 - 4th) and they clearly want it. Their last win was 46 years ago!

The fact that the Netherlands and Maltas names are being discussed within a conversation about "who might win" really is testament to how lacking in big moments this year is.

I wouldn't even say it's a bad edition, just extremely middling.

I'm also really not ready for another Dutch win so soon - thanks :eyes:

UK is the opposite for me. In the event of a win(I know :D) London is the last place I expect it to be.

We hear this today right - it’s last round of the rugby matches?

free pyro if the locals are slightly put out.
On that note mayoral elections are due in March 2026, so I imagine hosting Eurovision could be seen as a curse or a blessing depending on whether the organisation is competent or not.

I'm prepared for this to be dreadful tonight on account of the sound mixing. Live stadium performances can sound notoriously poor over the tv broadcast.

OK, but if it had to be in another French city, what would you choose?

Paris is like London. It's too big and I feel it'd get lost.
If we’re looking at medium sized cities, then Lyon. I can think of two events held there that take over the city.
Or maybe Nantes or Bordeaux. But I have no idea about their hosting capabilities.

Do most cities still have those Le Zénith arenas? Their layouts look impractical for a modern Eurovision.

I’m in Paris right now and there are a disturbing amount of rugby fans in kilts and tartan berets all around. I’m hoping Notre Dame refuses them entry.

I need the song to be good so she can landslide the jury and all the insufferable Austria fans can bog off.

Edit: ok everyone else thinks the same :D

I'm excited for this! A stadium performance probably isn't going to give a great first impression. Worth noting before the ESC loons write her off.
Will have to pop into the Eurovision Reddit to see the hot takes, although anything that isn’t ‘it’s crazy, it’s party’ generally gets short shrift.

I have heard the song, my partner works with the station and it’s up-mid tempo with synth pop - almost 80s sounding with a big chorus. It’s pretty good. I think it could win. Entirely in French, she literally screams in the middle of the song.

She’ll never be her!
