i.e. HBO/Max redoing all the Harry Potter books as a 'ten year' TV series, but keeping the look and production design the same (because of the theme parks
)
I think we've discussed bits of this elsewhere, but it's probs worth its own thread with rumours and news building. Obvs I don't want it (TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS), but I'm finding the whole thing deeply fascinating.
The latest:
- Filming in Leavesden from Spring/Summer
- Succession's 'consulting producer' Francesca Gardiner is showrunner, with lead director Mark Mylod (who directed lots of Succession). JK Rowling is all across it too, in between being unhinged on twitter
- Casting rumours and unconfirmed leaks: Mark Rylance rumoured for Dumbledore; Paapa Essiedu for Snape (I think one main difference from the films will be that black people are allowed proper speaking roles in this
); Roy Kent from Ted Lasso as Hagrid. I'm really intrigued to find who's out of options and whose love for money outruns their creative ambition / compassion for trans people to actually sign up for this one.
When the films only finished 15 years ago and are still so regularly watched it's surely the most unneeded, desperate cash grab that the peak TV era has seen so far. There's a world in which it's the biggest disaster ever, and another where it's a big hit, despite nobody wanting it right now. I'm not sure which one we're living in (probs the latter if they get it right, alas) but I'm EXCITED TO FIND OUT.
