"Music for a Sushi Restaurant" is supposedly single #3. It is already top 40 at pop radio off of unsolicited spins.

I was hoping for "Satellite" but anything should do well at this point.
 
9 of 13 songs from this album now have 100m+ streams. when Boyfriends (mysteriously the least popular song) gets there, I believe he'll be the only artist with 3+ albums whose every song on Spotify has 100m streams or more. KING!

It is my least favourite song on the album. So there is that :disco:
 
the worst song is obviously Daydream. still quite good, but a bit first album calculated stadium rock vibes.
 
It's vying to return to #1 on the Hot 100 next week.

Its chart run so far is amazing. It's the first song in history to spend its first 20 weeks in the top 3.

I'm sure he means well, but I think he's really quite uneducated and fundamentally doesn't understand that it's a privilege to be able to play dress-up in a woman's wardrobe for magazine shoots and positive PR, and then go home and present like the straight man he clearly is.

and all these deliberately ambiguous non-answers about his sexuality... girl. enough.
 
Good.

He's a good singer and I love his album but it was about time he showed his arse, there's something in him that has always struck me as insufferable.
The same could be applied to the rest of the band, I bet they're awful human beings; except maybe for Niall.

it's not gatekeeping. I don't care if gay people play straight. it's just that he seems clueless about his privilege, to the point of under playing a gay role in a very gay movie and saying it's just a human story.

and then the deliberate creation of an air of mystery around his sexuality explicitly designed to let people speculate about him being bi or queer, when he's clearly not. "I'm not choosing to have a public relationship." well, you date exclusively celebrities, all of whom are women, so you kind of are.

he just wants to have all the acclaim and hyperbolic "he's so brave" PR for wearing women's clothing and playing gay, but doesn't want to acknowledge that he's playing dress-up in that world only. it is a little degrading.

and it's also strange that some people consider him beyond fair criticism. I fucking love his album but his public persona is carefully constructed and as such it can be critiqued.
 
I repeat an earlier assertion made about Harry Styles- haven’t we got better things to do than try and dissect and cancel someone who appears to be doing everything he can to be ON OUR SIDE?
 
also apart from anything else, to say "so much of gay sex in cinema is two men going at it" is absurd when almost all gay scenes in mainstream cinema are played for tenderness or tastefulness. you never see guys "going at it" outside of very niche arthouse films.

nobody is trying to cancel him. jesus. it's simply a discussion/debate, one that many of his fans seem strangely unwilling to engage in.

and again, what has he done to advance the gay cause? that's kind of a myth. all of his gay-adjacent lewks, roles etc he inherently benefits from.
 
This whole thing is a bit of a non story that doesn’t need anything more than a snarky comment. Not everything deserves 10 think pieces.

I think you do make some valid points, and I think he is definitely open for critique.

However, he is completely advancing the gay cause. This is the biggest (apparently) heterosexual male pop star in the world. To lean in to and, as what a large majority of the straight population would say is ‘act gay’, but still be as massive as he is and as comfortable doing it is actually incredibly powerful at normalising queer culture. Maybe not for us raging queens, but certainly for Joe public to see it and still buy into it given his success.

A bit like Taylor doing You Need To Calm Down. Allies are essential. We can’t fight to be accepted and then do the opposite when people do, it damages the cause.

And I remember somehow that being turned into her trying to cash-in on gay culture, despite all the times she’d put her (actual!) money where her mouth was supporting gay causes in private.

this is really true. he must have only watched one or two gay films (on pornhub) and based his entire gay cinema opinion on it.

therefore i am upgrading Cinema from 09 to 10.

He has been confirmed as a straight by the straight-o-meter, he was recorded as being 14.6 Gethin Joneses, the basic scientific unit of straight
