The genius of this moment in her career. Where does one begin?

Do we begin with the song itself? The (sampled) beat, the heavy breathing, the lyrics, the controversy surrounding who wrote what, o the Lenny Kravitz BVs?

Or do we go straight to the video controversy and her BRAVERY (!!)!!)309423094))) in the bisexual canoodlings (both male on male as well as female on female - all gazes respected)

Maybe we should go to the remix packages and our introduction as a fanbase to William Orbit?

Also, I'm not sure the controversy surrounding who wrote what is GENIUS- it was her THIEVING HER LITTLE ARSE OFF again. CHANGE A WORD...
 
But FUCK ME, it's iconic.

It rounds off the whole imperial era so brilliantly- being the summation of everything she did to that point and getting more controversial and raunchy until she tipped over the edge with Erotica (well, Sex really) and got the backlash.

It remains in my top ten Madonna songs of all time and whilst, yes, the song itself has a big part to play in that (obviously), the delivery and production and where it's at. Her demanding "love me...LOVE ME" was one for the ages.

It's just so SPARSE. And DARK. And FILTHY. And without ever being explicit- which is where other things have gone wrong. Genuinely one of the sexiest songs ever made.

And HERE WE GO AGAIN, but I had no idea The Beast With existed until when @Epponnee Rae and me went on a shopping trip to London and found the US Maxi CD (which we also weren't aware of) in Tower Records, Piccadilly. And then I assume we had to get all the way home again before we could actually listen to it, as I don't think he had a CD player in his VW Polo back then

There are undoubtedly advantages to streaming. But FUCK ME, you don't get the anticipation and excitement like you used to.

I just sat wistfully for a few seconds thinking about that kind of business. I bought Crazy For You on 7" with my holiday pocket money in 1985 and then sulked the rest of the holiday as the record player in the cottage we were renting was broken and I couldn't play it. I was FOUL! :D

The "RTL German Satellite Porn" moment of Madge riding Tony in sexual pleasure but still having her knickers on...

In which Our Madge gets in from a hard day at the office to her hotel room in Paris to find WHOOPSIE DAISIE its been taken over by porn loving pervsters who are all at it with the doors open. Shocked ? Not our MARGE. With mascara thick enough to stun a small Iraqi army troop, once she's tilted her head back far enough to get her eyes open she notices dirty Tony Ward coming towards her in the corridor and WHOOPS all her clothes fall off. Except- AHA ! She didn't really have any on in the first place, and that coat just hid a pair of sussies and a nice bra that she clearly bought from Contessa on the way home...as if you hadn't GUESSED. Surely her protestations about being shocked MTV were banning it were taking it a BIT far. For GODS SAKE woman, you've practically got your CLUNGE out at one point. And lets not even get INTO the bit when Jamie Lee Curtis walks in with her tits out and starts NONCING up Tony Ward who is bound to a chair in some UNFEASIBLY shiny trousers...

The surrounding furore of course, did the song wonders- a US #1, UK #2 (at christmas in a time when people only cared about Cliff Richard...) and the biggest selling "video single" of all time. As a standalone video, its far sexier than "Erotica" to be fair, a lot of the action is more suggested at than graphic like it is in the later video and its hard to forget that the lesbian "sex scene" (although both women are actually clothed !) was truly scandalous 15 years ago. Still, that BIG OLE POOF Tony seemed to enjoy it...

And then as quickly as it began, Madge realises she left the gas on or something and hotfoots it back to the office. Or perhaps it was her lunchbreak and she only gets half an hour. People, we may NEVER KNOW...

I don’t think so. I can sort of understand why if it’s the first song in a show (eg Erotica from Girlie Show) but once properly vocally warmed up in a show I would have thought she could have given Some of them a go.. which is a shame really.
 
Rescue Me is great but that "singing through blocked nasal cavities" vocal is quite something.
 
I just played the video for Mr Jiva and he thought it was Natasha Bedingfield??!!
