Meep Sunday

I put the washing machine on a timer, it starts about 5am and then it's done by 7am when I wake. Then straight into the dryer (if I'm using it)

@floppet I don't know if you know the answer, but last night we spotted what we thought was a star next to the moon. But I've seen some posts on twitter suggesting it was Jupiter. Where can I find out if it was? Little Kylie is doing his space badge and I don't want to write the wrong thing next to the photo we took!

Good morning Meepy, I'm having a lie in today. Have been in work early, staying late or both all week (and was in for most of yesterday) so I feel I've earned it :tongueout:

We have Mr COB's mother staying with us now, she arrived yesterday afternoon so we're going to show her the sights today :disco:

Today I’m looking online for a small-ish Christmas tree, don’t have a ton of space in my current apartment for one. Anyone got any recommendations? I’m just going lazy and looking for one that lights itself up via a wall plugin, but will offset this by having fairy lights galore on the windows etc

To clarify, by “small” I mean say… no bigger than… a large dog. If that makes sense.

How about a little one that sits on a table? I'm slightly dreading getting our tree out of the attic, we rearranged the living room over the past year and I'm not sure there's anywhere it will fit now

I am also doing washing today!

I'm currently still in bed. I just cannot wake up properly, I assume it's the leftovers of Covid.

So I'm searching for a Northern Lights cruise.

The Range have lots.

It was indeed Jupiter that you saw! I looked out and saw it too. If the moon looked like it had a halo around it that was ice crystals.

Would sending Kylie's name to Jupiter's moon Europa be of any help with his space badge? If so, you can do it here https://europa.nasa.gov/message-in-a-bottle/sign-on/

Washing done. Listening to Tangerine Dream now. Their first album was totally bonkers - "Journey Through A Burning Brain", how's that for a title.

I've been tempted to buy one of those laundry drying pod things.

We’ve got one of those heated airers and we just pop a sheet over the top for the pod effect.

But generally we just let it dry naturally. It’s done quick enough for the most part for us.

We have a heated airer pod and everything else goes on the regular airer next to the radiator.

I have never regretted owning the heated airer pod. It's big but we have a room dedicated to laundry, so it's well out the way.

We're not QUITE Xmas tree ready, that's for NEXT WEEKEND, but we've basically already adopted a Christmas diet.

JUST PUT ME ON THE CHRISTMAS TABLE!

I was impressed by Lidl's Christmas offering yesterday afternoon. Had to stop myself buying anything too NIBBLY though because i can't resist once it's in the house.

For the last two years we've used the pets as an excuse not to decorate at Christmas, because Heathcliff chewed anything plastic and sparkly and Herbie was a mini tornado.

This year we only have the hamster and he won't cause any problems but I still can't be bothered to decorate.

I may buy a festive candle.

Why don't Barclays allow credit cards to be added to the Google wallet on your phone? It's really annoying.

I’m so Christmas ready. Finished my wrapping today. Just got to finish Mr Sheena’s present this week and I’m done.

Today’s lunch has crackers and a Christmassy table decoration and stuff too. I am SO festive it hurts…and it’s not even bloody December.

I’m kind of worried actual Christmas is going to be a disaster though. We’d arranged for 15 of us in an AirBnB in Wales with Mr Sheena’s family- first time ever all of us have been able to be together, as his one of his brother’s kids live in Spain. His Mum has terminal cancer but was told “probably six months” but it’s accelerated and she’s now in a hospice. Fucking cruel- she’d have wanted nothing more.

Thing is, she is clinging on, the poor thing. We’ve been thinking she’d go for about a month now but they’re saying “a few weeks” which will mean Christmas might be a write off. We’ll see, I guess.

That's rotten. We had a similar thing last year when my uncle was given 3-4 months at the beginning of November. My dad came over from Canada to see him and his family were arranging for one last Christmas. He didn't last into December.

No wonder you're sick of it and ripping everything down come Boxing Day :D

I do get it though - the anticipation is a big part of the fun. I think because growing up we never decorated until about 2 weeks before, it was never really my thing.

There's also the fact that work for me is most stressful between about mid November and mid December trying to sort out hundreds of festive methadone prescriptions that mean I don't really start FEELING it until that is out of the way. And that's probably why I'm also happy to eke it out right through to Twelfth Night afterwards. Or at least until whatever day I return to work.

To be fair, this is the earliest ever I’ve done it. It’s normally December 1st, maybe just a day or two before. But this year has been rotten and we just thought, fuck it, why are we waiting for a date to do something that makes us happy?

But you’re right- it’s about anticipation, watching Christmas films with the lights on, playing the Peanuts Christmas album, sipping on Snowballs- and all of that loses its appeal instantly after Christmas Day for me, so I need to make the most of it before. It’s definitely the way that suits me.

We put our shop Christmas decorations up two weeks ago, the whole town is decorated with trees and lights and it looks lovely.

I totally get why people put them up early home. I might get a few decorations just no tree.

12/10. Would recommend mustard seeds and chilli flakes.

What else is in it Ag? What stock did you use? I need soup inspiration.

Nothing groundbreaking. Carrot, leak, potato onion with those vegetable jelly stock pots, which I find far more versatile as an ingredient, half a tablespoon of mustard seeds, salt and pepper. I added chilli flakes and mixed herbs afterwards and it tasted great.

I was thinking ham would have been a nice addition, with the presence of mustard, but we don't have any in.

Apart from the mustard seeds that's exactly what my soup had and it still tasted of nothing. Did you fry it all first or just add it to water?
