Old TOTP (BBC4) (2 Viewers)

Sorry but "No More Lonely Nights" is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's the verses. Never saw Macca's weird film tho'.

I find that Bronski Beat song too repetitive.

The Cars and John Waite back to back, two classic Now! That's What I Call Dad staples.

Together In Electric Dreams really is an evergreen 80s highlight.

Oh dear at John Waite's attempts to get a very minor groove on. Not naturally rhythmical.

I'd never heard The Medicine Song before, surprised it didn't peak past #29! Very Pointer Sisters.

Just re-watching the clips for the extra bits (I feel like the TV iPlayer version is missing tracks for no apparent reason, either that or I need to wait for the repeat).

That John Waite song is way more familiar than I ever realised - just checked I know it through Tina Turner.

We only ever record the repeat. Thankfully even with the weeks when episodes are missed due to whatever else BBC4 may consider more important, series link doesn't skip any.

The Electric Dream video is so 80s it may as well have a football riot and than crash the stock market. The song really has become the flag bearer for 80s electro pop, so it's more astonishing that someone chose to edit it out!

I do think that John Waite's 'Missing You' is a classic of its genre. It's just an awful genre.

Together In Electric Dreams is still always in the encore of any Human League concert. It's as feelgood a concert closer as any I can think of.

The Medicine Song is SIMPLY SUPER and I LOVE IT

Because you've been BAD baby
Oh so BAD baby
And there's ONLY ONE THING CAN BE DONE

Freedom is by far the best Wham! song. They did seem to develop quite rapidly. I mean this and Careless Whisper are years ahead of toot like Wham Rap.

Stephanie Mills is inspiring my look for the next pay day drinks:

Astonishingly Wham! were edited out of the most recent episode. Insanity!
Probably because the performance is repeated when the song goes to No 1 - also, stuff in the middle is the easiest to edit out. They had to scrap a whole episode because Gary Glitter was first on.

If I hadn't been a clueless young twat in 1984, busily writing letters to the Bucks Fizz fan club every week, I'm sure I'd have been wanking myself silly over Adam Ant.

I just caught up on the second one from last week. What an episode...

I've never seen the video for The Medicine Song before, Steph gives it so much more SASS than I could have imagined. Kim Wilde comes on like a demanding sci fi goddess and the power of The Second Time is undeniable.

Yes I love Freedom and agree it is their best. The performance is so joyous as well, George's moves are his most exuberant. There's a tremendous bit where he drops back to do a silly little dance with Pepsi and Shirlie then rushes forward to punch the air and hair toss flamboyantly with Andrew.

Shout to the Top is marvellous too (though the Loleatta take might be even more so). Not so sure about Paul Young in leggings and those upshirt camera shots though.

This EPISODE is MOSTLY RATHER DULL SO FAR which is only making I FEEL FOR YOU seem even more PHENOMENAL than it was and heaven knows it was already QUITE PHENOMENAL INDEED

I've forgotten to post links to the last few episodes that BBC4 can't show but DLT's last ever time of co-hosting TOTP is now online. His link after the first record (the quirky and excellent 'Listen To Your Father' by Feargal Sharkey) makes for slightly uncomfortable viewing... especially for the girl who he grabs in a headlock. She certainly doesn't look impressed...

Grab it while you can as WeTransfer keep taking down the TOTP's episodes with no warning! Possibly due to the amount of people who download them...

At least that's one of the episode blocking reasons gone. Bit concerned some of the upcoming Xmas episodes are gonna be lost because of Gary Glitter.

Yup, the history making edition from 13/12/84 could be at risk. Having seen Glitter's appearance on that particular show it looks to be a difficult one to edit out as they go to his performance during the top 40 countdown. Hopefully the BBC editing team can do it though as it's an excellent edition. And as I mentioned, it's a history making edition for the charts as it was the first time the top 2 had consisted of new entries.

Dame Chaka what a SHITE EPISODE.
I like how Melle Mel used his own rap from the start of Chaka's single and made another hit single out of it at the beginning of 1985 ('Step Off' by Grandmaster Melle Mel and the Furious Five, whch peaked at number 8 in January 1985). Assuming BBC4 show TOTP from 1985 it will be featured on a Gary Davies and Peter Powell hosted edition.

Sadly the excellent 'Since Yesterday' by Strawberry Switchblade won't be shown as their two appearances in 1985 were on Mike Smith hosted editions.

Fuck's sake. I knew there was a reason I hated that cuntwipe when he was "alive".

Surely they could just keep running down the charts...

No Strawberry Switchblade?

Time for Sarah Greene to get a delivery from shitexpress.com.

I adored Rose McDowell when I was a kid - I still do.
