The tedious covers were so depressing. This one in particular is horrible. I Got You Babe isn't even a very good song.
Well, indeed. It were shite to start with.

There were too many songs between 1984 and 1985 called The Power of Love. Huey Lewis's was by far the worst.
I love the J-Rus/ Cel-D TPOL. But then I would.I dunno, Jennifer Rush wasn't much better, even if she at least had a touch of drama about her. FrankieGTH's is still an outright classic.
The Marillion singer could have been almost fit with a better haircut.
Credit to them for flaunting the miming so brazenly.
What the FUCK is Red Box Lean On Me? What a hateful video.
Yeah that was explained. I was about to be Twitter agog that I bet his fans were pissed that he could do TOTP but not his gigs.I think the excuse was that Fish had a bad throat but he'd have been miming anyway so not quite sure what was happening there. Marillion were genuinely huge at this point which historians will likely find bizarre.
Also you have to love someone called JETTY WHEELS
This Jagger and Bowie video has earned it's so bad it's good status. Especially knowing they've fucked each other, which I have no idea if that was common knowledge in 1985.
Of course!Even seen this?

"Yesterday's Men" is a lovely song...should really have got its due when they reformed but they eschewed it in favour of the "nutty" hits. Ah well.
Yes I noted that! That Cliff Richard video was ILL-ADVISED!
My GOD the Thompson Twins are a barrel of cat shit.
Didn't the Thompson Twins sell out originally to find fame? I seem to recall reading they were quite an art house outfit, but purposely forced themselves into the mainstream after commercial failure.
I figure it's not so different to what Phil Oakey did with The Human League. But to much lesser effect.Sort of. The 7-piece art-house version had a US club hit with In The Name Of Love but this was largely made by Tom Bailey on his own and not everyone in the band was enamoured with the direction. I *think* Tom Bailey effectively bought most of the members out of the band and took over making the music himself with the other two being more involved in the staging and visuals than they were in the records, Bailey figuring they would still have to *look* like a band.
