Dance Monkey back up to #2 on iTunes. If it wasn't on ACR I wouldn't write it out of the Christmas #1 race, but it triggered that last week, hence it falling to #10 this week, when it would otherwise have been #3.

From @Robbie on ukmix again

As expected, album sales are very poor and for only the second time in the past decade the number 1 album falls below the 100,000 mark in the Christmas chart:

2019: Rod Stewart - You're In My Heart (Rhino) - 71,330
2018: The Greatest Showman (Atlantic) – 68,606
2017: Eminem – Revival (Polydor/Interscope) – 131,636
2016: Michael Ball & Alfie Boe – Together (Decca) – 109,708
2015: Adele – 25 (XL Recordings) – 449,870
2014: Ed Sheeran – X (Asylum/Atlantic) – 214,451
2013: Robbie Williams – Swings Both Ways (Island) – 126,330
2012: Emeli Sande – Our Version Of Events (Virgin) – 177,696
2011: Michael Buble - Christmas (Warner Records) – 317,114
2010: Take That – Progress (Polydor) – 330,251

Paid for album sales down just over 30%, year on year, which I think is fairly consistent with 2019 on the whole. Including streaming sales, it's down 13%

I don't expect many midweeks updates this week, so come on Mariah and Make it it happen!

She's some way behind of Stormzy on streaming sales when you consider her higher ratio, though. And he's outselling her on itunes by nearly 2:1.

I guess it all depends how she performs on streaming at the week progresses.

To be honest I don't have much hope she tops the chart, but it's the only reason I keep checking this thread, and unlike Sinitta, I still believe in miracles.

I'm still predicting Stormzy at #1 and Mariah at #2, and counting LadBaby out, unless he releases another version.

Wham! did outsell Mariah last week, even without the 7" version, but unless they are outperforming her on other platforms, she's clearly ahead on Spotify and iTunes.

Does Alexa go through Amazon Music? If so, that must surely make Amazon a major streaming platform at this time of year when people just ask Alexa to out on Christmas music...?

Given those album sales, it'll be interesting to see how HMV have got on this Christmas. They've seemed busy on the top floor when I was in and seemed to be shifting toys, mugs and t-shirts. The music bit downstairs wasn't busy.

Unless you specify 'on Spotify', yes it does. I'm still a little confused about what music you get for free on amazon music though.

Tones & I back at #1 on iTunes. LadBaby still at #1 if you combine versions, but as things stand, that won't last long.

Stormzy #3, Mariah #6

I tried to listen to that Roxanne thing but switched off as soon as soon as the daft cunt said "bitches love the 'gram".

She's the big unknown because of the Amazon business. She's been high in the midweeks before and fallen, though.

Sorry if it's already been answered, but what's the deal with that Ellie Goulding song? Why is it only available on selected platforms? And why has it blown up?

Isn’t she on adverts for Alexa?

it’s not even the best version of River released in the last few months.

It's the new PAYOLA for 2019.

I haven't read an official answer but it's an Amazon exclusive and apparently plays when people ask Alexa to "play Christmas music" - that bundled with the fact a good proportion of Alexa users have Amazon Prime/Music means it gets counted as a "paid" stream which holds more chart weight than a "free" stream

Just tried it on mine, and it was the fifth track, behind Mariah, Wham, Bublé and Grande.

I don't really see a problem, to be honest. Or at least no more than Spotify Chridtmas playlists and their skew over the chart, anyway.

Do you think the fact that Mariah and Brenda Lee are the top 2 this week in USA will make Billboard introduce crazy (unfair) rules like in the UK charts?

I think too few people are really bothered. The OCC in the UK have basically ruined the UK charts by fiddling about with the rules as an when it suits them so I can't see the US wanting to follow suit.

If a non-US artist was #1 they might change their mind because MURCA!!!

I note Twitter has begun the annual dragging of "Do They Know It's Christmas" for not managing to bung a 200 page treatise on the political and agricultural history of Ethiopia into a 4 minute charity record. The bastards.

Billboard went fucking wild over Mariah being #1! They ran about 50 articles on it. So no, I doubt it.

Is it a completely level playing field in the US, then?

Oh absolutely, they're over the moon right now, but if this is repeated every year now, I don't think so. They already had temporal rules where Christmas singles were not allowed to chart in the Hot 100, that's what I mean, they might bring that shit back. Hopefully not and we have Mariah #1 in Christmas forever :disco:

Mariah approx 24k streams down on Christmas Eve last year. Wham! up about 16k.

It's kind of weird that however high Mariah's figure, Wham! is always 20k behind.

This is surely down to people sticking on the Christmas playlist which have Wham straight after her
