I was amazed Magic are still playing Christmas tunes. I thought the day after Christmas Day they were essentially banned.

I still think she'll end up #2 behind Stormzy. When you take her streaming ratio into account, she only outsold him on Christmas Eve and Day.

Always assuming other streaming platforms follow Spotify of course. And any Ellie Goulding amazon chartfuckery.

I'm quite pleased with that :D

I mean I don't know why - it just means amazon won over Spotify, really.

There’s no need for that Ellie version of River when you have Joni’s immaculate original available or Sarah McLachlan’s cover to hand too.

I quite like the Ellie Goulding version, as much as Joni's version is obviously superior. And I don't really find it absurd either, once you accept that the chart has been surrendered to playlist curators, anyway.

Isn’t it just that she’s been put on the start of an Amazon playlist then?

The charts really are DEAD :D

Well that's what I heard. But when I tried their main Christmas playlist, she was behind Mariah, Wham! and The Pogues, so I don't really see how she has any unfair advantage.

Considering spotify streams have consistently been slightly lower than last year while I've been comparing them over the last week or so, I'll be interested to see how the figures stack up - presumably amazon music has grown, if she's managed to get to #1 without any streaming sales from spotify, when the competition is available on both. And presumably she's selling well in terms of downloads as well? And if so, fair enough.

She's not available on iTunes, so any paid downloads are pure Amazon, presumably.

The YouTube video only has 1 million views too...

Okay, this is pretty fucked up.

She's # NOWHERE on the sales only chart (although Joni is #91) and only #10 on the streaming chart - but every track above her is subject to the ACR.

But she's ended up at #1 overall :D

I wonder if they'll release it to other formats now that the peak season has ended? Not that there's much point as it's destined to plummet either way.

Good future pointless answer for a UK #1 single I guess.

Utterly ridiculous. This nonsense HAS to stop.

Gibberish!

Robbie has posted on ukmix that on last week's chart (when Goulding also failed to chart on the sales only chart), she only managed 166 actual sales.

I don't want old songs excluded from the chart, but I think I would prefer that to this current method of including them into the main chart and then subjecting them to different rules.

From the OCC

Last Christmas sets a new streaming record this week, notching up a massive 17.1 million plays. It’s the biggest week of streams for a song in the UK ever, overtaking Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings, which racked up 16.9 million plays in a week in January 2019.

17.1m streams in total for Last Christmas this week. Adding the daily totals on Spotify gives a total of 5.137m. So Spotify only had 30% of its streams.

Didn’t Mariah do 12 million in one day? Or was that global? The charts make no sense to me.
If Last Christmas broke a streaming record for most streamed song why is AIWFCIY top of the streaming chart?

Oh yeah. Well fuck knows, that obviously makes no sense. I'm sure someone on ukmix or buzzjack will pick up on that.

Sorry just catching up on this but is Ellie being number 1 for real?

Ugh.

So apparently, in the week her new video was launched and in the highest Christmas streaming week, AIWFCIY dropped on the video streaming chart from 5-19. How is that remotely possible?!

Well, except for the fact that anything is possible in this chart catalogue of moronic nonsense.

So is Mariah really number 1?
No... and yes!

There's still no sales reports been published on Music Week as yet which means that actual sales information is limited though Mariah would be number 1 if she wasn't on ACR. The OCC mentioned yesterday that 'River' had sold 78,000.

In addition confusion reigns on the Video Streaming Chart. 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' by Mariah Carey makes an unexpected drop down the chart from 5 to 19. However new at 13 is 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' by Jukebox Heaven. Who? most people will ask. Jukebox Heaven have released a number of cover versions of popular tracks over the years. Their cover of 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' is on Spotify (). However I can't find a video for the track on YouTube so I am wondering if there is some sort of tracking error. Combined the two video stream versions of 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' would be number 3. It follows that if there is an error then Mariah has lost a fair number of video streams from her chart sales... of course it is possible that there isn't an error and many thousands of people really were watching a video that doesn't appear to exist...

Jukebox Heaven have been releasing covers of popular hits for over a decade. They are an anonymous collection of studio musicians who have recorded dozens of tracks including an entire album of Christmas songs, including 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'. Their covers remind me somewhat of those old Top Of The Pops albums that were popular in the 1970s amd 1980s which were cheap remakes of hits of the day.

Their take on 'Fairytale Of New York' is a work of art. "Shane" and "Kirsty" can't even sing in time with each other!

The whole album...

Thanks Robbie. Any insight into the 'record breaking' Last Christmas' streams, while Mariah still placed higher than it for the week?

And presumably if it wasn't for ACR, Ellie would be #10 - as every song above her was subject to it.

Make it a level playing field or just move old songs into a chart of their own. She sold fuck all (not in the Top 100) and was outstreamed by nine other songs (which I imagine all outsold her as well), but she ends up with the prize?
