I actually don’t get why he’s even trying at this point? He knows he’s lost it and that clip makes him seem particularly ODIOUS AND DESPERATE!

To be fair, this feels like a gaffe, but had he stayed he definitely would have asked a 102-year-old veteran if he had invested in crypto.

There aren't many things I like about Nick Ferrari, but when he identifies someone as an idiot, he really doesn't hold back with his DISDAIN :D

There's the argument that why would the Prime Minister busy himself going somewhere "foreign" and rubbing shoulders with EU leaders when there's an election campaign going on and questions at home that need answering. It's the sort of thought a Reform voter (who they're trying to win over) might have.

He did also send our Foreign Sec AND former Prime Minister to represent, so it wasn't a total snub.

Yeah, it's backfired but I can sort of see what they were going for, or at least the logic that went into the (ultimately poor) decision.

It's the one demographic he needs tho' - older people and AR BOYS flagwavers and now he's pissed them off. Great news for Reform which is also bad news for us in the long term.

Yes - the one exception being when it is anything to do with one of this weird little nation's sacred cows.

I actually think taking a one day trip on the ferry to honour r braveboys and then coming back with a trunk full of duty free beer and cigarettes would have been an EASY WIN for Rishi to get the Reform voters on side. Sad!

Well yes this too, I guess what I'm trying to say is it's a bit "you can't win" and a shorter visit was a compromise. I don't AGREE it's just I can sort of see why they might have done what they did.

I can imagine gammons being equally pissed off to see him pally with Macron. Some people - your average Reform voter certainly being one of them - just like to MOAN either way don't they.

(Trying not to come across too devils advocate or Sunak supporting here btw!)

Vote BLUE!

I'd wager that a lot of Reform voters wouldn't recognise Macron in a lineup. I sound like i'm being superior but i've seen a few articles talking about focus groups and the like and some mention people basically not knowing who Keir Starmer was prior to the election.

Ferry? I think you mean helicopter.

The optics are awful, not just for the obvious national commemoration aspect, but one of his predecessors up with Biden and Macron is a terrible look.

Then there's Starmer cosying up with lovely wee Zelenskyy, but worse for Sunak they looked absolutely natural (although I'm aware Zelenskyy will meet with the reanimated corpse of Idi Amin if it meant weapons).

He's so distant from what's expected, it's bizarre.

I'm less agog at the Tories fumbling PR, than I'm agog at their natural instinct not being to prioritise this. As Tetris says; THE HEROES are one of the obsessions of your typical blue. I'd normally expect him to prioritise SOMBRE photoshoots even if the whole of the UK were aflame.

I wonder if this is simply an attempt to distract from the REAL absence. Why have there been no reported sightings of a dutiful Bedfordshire dame forcibly ejecting the veterans from their wheelchairs?

What a DELICIOUS cock-up :D

Not least because he wheeled out the 'judge me by my actions' line as part of the "apology" when that's EXACTLY WHAT PEOPLE ARE DOING.

It's of a piece with Theresa May not wanting to deal with Grenfell. Sunak lacks the basic compassion to understand the point of an event like yesterday in the same way that May wanted to just meet a few carefully chosen people and then piss off.
