Dirrty
Christina Aguilera Feat. Redman
Stripped (2002)
I mean, COME ON. This was such a borderline genius/crazy risky move, a huge gamble which paid off THANK GOD. It's just a load of NOISE really, isn't it? How did it become such a big hit? In the UK at least - it went platinum and even won Best Single at the Q Awards (!) in 2003, while it only made #48 in the US. Produced by Rockwilder, whom SHE approached after he had produced Lady Marmalade, I was totally in love with it from the first time I heard it on the radio, but I was more surprised that anyone when it went to #1. It was more than just a song - it was a whole disgusting, grimy, sexy, sweaty, writhing in-the-club MOVEMENT. Jeez, what I must have looked like dancing to this in lace-up-crotch jeans and a string vest (HOT). I probably played it every day in my first year at uni in halls. It was easily my favourite song for a long time, but overplaying has slightly rubbed some of its charm away. I know the word gets thrown around a lot by internet gayz nowadays but the David LaChapelle video was (and remains) genuinely ICONIC. It has 123 million YouTube hits. Amazing dancing and costumes - and the water! Also love the song that inspired it, Let's Get Dirty by Redman.
Highlight: ALL OF IT but Redman's rap is the cherry on top.
