After the Bananarama thread including 'The Runner', and me completely missing the Three Degrees version in my catalogue, I thought lets see what else I'm missing. But It seems Moopy is missing a thread! :o

I know they're musically 'alive' today, but let's show some appreciation for what was a fantastically vocally arranged, glamorous group of the 70's early 80's.

I found this live version of 'MacArthur Park' from London '75. And I thought Donna was the only one to see potential..

'Givin Up Givin In' has always got people up at our parties. Truly :disco: And a particular favourite in our household when growing up. :shy:

Slightly revived by that Glitterball rehash. Which I also love.
 
What is their ABSOLUTE CLASSIC DISCO ALBUM that someone on ye olden days of LE MOOP once told me to look out for but I believe is only available on vinyl and I've never thought of since?

They're both almost impossible to come by on CD
 
I almost bought the FIRST on vinyl a few weeks back in a charity shop, but it was a bit too scratched.

I shall keep my EYES PEELED :disco:
 
I need to pester my Mum to see what one she's got, but I feel it's more 'My Simple Heart' era. :(

GOD LOVE MY MUM AND APPRECIATION FOR THE THREE DEGREES! Amongst other things.

*Have nicked the Dionne Warwick and Eartha Kitt albums, but left the Chas 'n' Dave and Bobby Crush*

So I've picked up both "3D" and "Take Good Care Of Yourself" (which would appear to be just a repackaged version of "Three Degrees International") for a quid each in a second hand shop at the weekend. I like them both lots, but the former is ABSOLUTELY CORKING- I haven't been able to take it off. "Jump The Gun" and "Red Light" merging into one is almost TOO MUCH until you get to "Set Me Free" which is, as Toyah mentioned, an ABSOLUTE STUNNER.

The second half is less discotastic, but just as good too. If "New Dimensions" is, as I've heard, even better than this, then I'm in for a VINYL TREAT :disco:

"Set Me Free" is INDEED fucking brilliant. That's the one I had an mp3 of and remember having a disco ejaculation over

Dunno where the hell I got it from, as it came as such a surprise, presumably it was an old yousendit from here but it's mighty ace and the only other mp3 I have is the obligatory "Givin Up, Givin In"

I sooo NEED that Moroder stuff :disco:

Well not in a Diana Ross type of way. Most of the leads were shared between Sheila and Valerie. I suppose that Shelia became the supposed "lead" of the group only because of her song writing involvement in the disco period.
 
"Set Me Free" was BIZARRELY on my local radio station on Monday on the way to work...

New Directions is getting the CD reissue treatment in August, again on the Cherry Red disco label BBR. I got one of their Gloria reissues, which was done rather nicely. Tracklisting:

I picked up the 'New Directions' re-issue this week. I love the fabulous story in the Liner notes of Sheila being inspired to write the lyrics to 'The Runner' after chasing a gay man out of her hotel room with a frying pan! :D

They better release the Moroder(?) one with "Set Me Free" on it. :evil:

I did see that a lot of disco albums were being released linked to Cherry Pop, didn't know there was a whole label for all of it. I think with the likes of June Pointer, they got inspiration from a certain disco blog.
 
I caught the tail-end of an interview with three old women who are currently posing as the Three Degrees on Lorraine Kelly earlier.

They're going on a fairly extensive UK tour (of fairly shitty venues). I don't know if ANY of them were in the original lineup, though. Sheila certainly wasn't present.

They were. Not all of them but 2 have been in the heyday line up, if I recall...

I was going to go but it's ridiculously about THIRTY QUID for no Sheila and I can't get anyone to go with me :(
 
The 3D reissue is really very nicely done with an extensive write-up and lots of fabulous/ridiculous pictures of the girls. My favourite:

I've GOT that album on vinyl. One side is their GREATEST HITS and the other a RIDICULOUS live set.

It's quite TREMENDOUS :disco:

I wish I could rip them all for you but I just have a GENERIC TURNTABLE.
