There's a great scene in the 2001 workshop recording where Elphaba and Glinda meet up at Kiamoko Castle after The March Of The Witch Hunters. I hope they reinstate some of that. It lifts quite a lot from The Wizard Of Oz though, so it might fall foul of MGM's lawyers.

Quite sure the specific historical and geographic circumstances and cultural signifiers that gave rise to the term ‘Hispanic’ probably don’t apply to the world of Oz.

101 Dalmatians is racist against CATS!

The fact that they used so many dogs was offensive, frankly!

The way they ate this better in the movie which takes 14 minutes from the "Elphaba why couldn't you stay calm for once..." line to finish the song.

I’m tired of skipping through No One Mourns The Wicked to get past anything that isn’t Ariana’s bits so an edit of that would be great too thanks

Just watched it again. Liked it more the second time as I expected, I was able to separate from the musical more this time.

My friend was saying that the the dragged out Defying Gravity has become a bit of a meme, making fun of the padding. Personally I like it now, there are some powerful moments the stage version can’t provide. I see them as different, not better or worse.

If I'm listening to the song, I'll take the musical version. But that version is great in the film.

The score is out now too. Not loving it to be honest, but it's an enjoyable listen with all the nods to the original songs.

I never really got into Wicked, beyond Defying Gravity - which is objectively one of the greatest gay songs ever. I don't think Cynthia pulled it off. The Adele Dazeem Mix will forever remain the definitive for me.

Ariana was absolutely incredible. Why has she not been giving this level of camp + vocals her entire pop career? Here I was enjoying a bop here or there instead of irrationally stanning, and yet she is that girl I didn't know she was.

Jonathan Bailey and especially Bowen Yang showed that it's not worth casting the hets when the gays can show up and show out like this.

I’ve only really known Defying Gravity from that one award show performance (which wasn’t great) and Glee so I had no issue with Cynthia’s version.
She seems to be a bit off putting in interviews but I really loved her in this film. Her acting was amazing and I really like her singing voice.

Ariana was a gift from heaven and I can see awards for this in her future.

Jonathan Bailey needs to be eye candy in every movie.

Has Wicked opened globally?

I only ask because Moana is about 50/50 North America/Rest of the world, which I think is more usual for big movies, whereas Wicked is 70/30, and we know a big chunk of that rest of the world is the UK.

Has it yet to open in other territories, or is it just not doing quite as well elsewhere?

Lots of big territories, including France, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium and China only opened this weekend. I think Japan is the main one that hasn’t opened yet.

I think it opened in Germany 2 weeks later than elsewhere for some reason. Anyway, we’ll have to see which one has the most legs. I still haven’t seen Moana 2. I tried to go yesterday straight after seeing Conclave, but walked out 5 mins in because of the feral audience. And that was all adults - the kids there were perfectly well behaved.

I wonder if run time is part of it. Moana 2 is only 100 minutes long vs 160 minutes for Wicked.
