I was certainly sat listening open mouthed and considering my next move when she confirmed that her dad had a bit of an EPISODE and had to leave so she ended up missing most of it and can't remember any of it.

For me:

The stage show = NOT GREAT, 5/10, could be so much better
The film (part one) = MAGNIFICENT. I went in with low expectations thanks to the above, and adored it.
 
I really enjoyed the fact I was able to understand the context of a couple of the songs I had heard before (Popular and Defying Gravity).
 
I think I benefited from never seeing the stage show because I really had no idea what I was walking in to except who the two mains were and of course the Wizard.

I’ve since watched parts of the stage show on YouTube and it seems like something you really need to watch in person.
 
I loved the stage show but a lot of it might be have been going in with low expectations and being really surprised by how well it dealt with the source material (even though it had to wash over a lot of the detail) and the songs were so strong (I'm generally not a musical songs fan)

But I also remember being quite bored in the second half, and hating Fiyero. I can't remember if that's because of the way the role was written for stage, or the actor.

I thought you meant she walked out of the CAST (or whatever they call themselves - troupe? company?)

Was expecting some HOT GOSSIP
 
I feel like I have to watch this, but I'm not remotely interested in anything about it. I'm hardly musical theatre adverse, but I just don't feel like I've missed out. Nothing I've seen has disproven this.
 
One of my best friends is doing a Wicked themed birthday party for her 7 year old daughter in a couple of weeks (well, she’s doing a cake and has ordered some personalised party plates, cups and napkins). Is it weird to share the interests of a 7 year old?
 
How do you mean, Ellie? Just making it common knowledge that the child loves Wicked?
 
Someone I follow on Instagram has pointed out that green was EVERYWHERE last year (I guess this is slightly Wicked-related, I didn't know where else to put it):

Very belatedly saw this in the cinema today.

I liked it, but the bits in between the good songs definitely dragged, and the extended runtime only exacerbated the glaring issues with the plot.

That said, Cynthia was great but Ariana totally walked away with it. You can so tell it’s the role she’s been waiting her whole life to play.
 
I'm now pertitioning for an offical response from @VoR as to how he would improve the story of Wicked, the greatest Origin Prequel ever written.

Well, as has been discussed muchly by Wicked commentators, the second act of the musical is much shorter than the first, so if the second film ends up being close to 3 hours again, there's a good chance we get more of the delicious book mythology and the first to benefit would be Nessarose. I do understand out of the all the characters why she was adjusted for the musical. But her expanded role will make the connection of Wicked and The Wizard of Oz all the more satisfying.

If a response is not forthcoming before the time dragon clock strikes thirteen, then he will be stripified of his mod powers and a flash mob will be despatched to the nearest tulip field to celebrate (thank goodness)

I still need to watch it with the commentaries. May settle into them after I finish the Oscar quest (why are all the documentaries and International films this year SO LONG? Even the shorts are longer than usual).
 
My only few thoughts, which have probably been said already, but some of them looked a bit old for students - especially Fiyero.
And I felt Defying Gravity was a little spoilt as it was so broken up in-between the scenes. But perhaps I'll enjoy that more once I've seen it a few times!

Definitely - I got Rizzo in Grease vibes :D although Johnny looked hot obviously
