James Cameron has been talking about it to the Los Angeles Times, so we may as well get the thread started nice and early :D

Ellie, please approach this thread with caution, I fear for your heart otherwise.

The news so far:

- Avatar 2 is coming
- It's going to be set primarily underwater on Pandora
- There will be some stuff in the rainforest too

MORE as we get it.

Hopefully this time somebody is going to bother with the script

Hopefully a zombie apocalypse will indefinitely halt production :) Maybe Sam Worthington could die in a freak lesbian vending machine accident.

Oh this doesn't really bother me this time around. There's no way i'll be tricked by SIMPLE PEOPLE proclaiming it to be REVOLUTIONARY and the MOST AMAZING FILM EVER two times in a row.

We can join forces together to protest outside Imax cinemas :|

Or just ignore it :al:

What can they add to make the second (or even third movie) interesting? I mean, the novelty wore off after watching the 3D innovations of the 1st movie. The story was boring.

But I guess I would watch the 2nd one too out of curiosity :shy:

I'm sure there are tons of mindless people who will go again not matter how badly it's written...it's amazing don't you know.

Isn't that a bit like saying "I've seen a film in colour, what could they possibly add to another, the novelty has worn off now"

The 3D is just the medium - if they use that to make a balls to the wall, kick arse action film with a slight script, then WHY NOT?

I said it because I think that the main selling point of Avatar was the 3D innovation, because the story and the script were not really that strong. The cinematography was good though.

And I already added that I would watch the 2nd film out of curiosity :p

What was the OFFICIAL CHRISTIAN VERDICT of avatar Chrissy? I do not remember seeing it. I imagine you to be somewhere near the middle of the love/hate divide.

Also i must say how odd i find that they're not releasing it in 3D yet. I know it's just the Vanilla and the big all singing all dancing in time for Christmas one will probably have 3d, but still.

Loved the first one and I'm sure I'll see this one as well.

I hope there is a Na'vi character named "Shellie" who walks around with her arms crossed and "hates good films".

"Shellie" will communicate with the underwater God of Reason by burying her head in the sand.

The first trailer for this was shown today (at the industry event CinemaCon, not sure if it'll be released to the public any time soon) and the title was revealed as Avatar: The Way of Water. Out this December!

I feel like the appeal of the first one was 'cool 3D' and that this might struggle to find an audience, especially when cinemas aren't exactly doing huge numbers for anything that isn't Marvel related, but then a LOT of people saw the first one so maybe it'll do alright.

Are 3D films still a thing? Avatar is still the only one I ever saw.

I wrote the below earlier and never hit reply so you beat me to it, but yeah.

I mean it looks beautiful.

But they waited way too long. The first one dropped off awfully quickly for a film that made so much money. The avatar gimmick is no longer new, nor is the 3D technology. Moreover I don’t know if people have the appetite for the actual Pandora world itself without the conflict that made the original story.

We’ll see.

The latest 3D craze is pretty much over but Avatar if I remember correctly was filmed entirely in 3D, so it was a bit of a benchmark at the time (and it did look amazing on IMAX, once you got used to it. If you got used to it - there were complaints of nausea and people walking out LOLZ but that was probably a minority)

I'd never count James Cameron out. Titanic and the original Avatar were both declared to have little commercial potential pre-release and look how that turned out.

That being said, I'm really dubious about this. Pandora wasn't that interesting first time around and the water doesn't add much to this trailer. The Navi still look weird and he's really going to have to ramp up the story as it was very weak last time.

I was trying to recognise the actors behind the avatars - was that the Kate Winslet one swimming around at one point?

Might watch this just to see what Sigourney pops up as.

I hope she's a tree Deku-style.

I can't wait and don't care about the story, I just want to look at the world and blue muscles.

Come on water, let’s get sickening

Also I can’t believe they invoked that dreadful Leona song.

I'm sure all of the haters will be turned right around by rumours that this is likely to be 190 minutes long.
