artists using insane reference points is nothing new though so I'm not sure why it's been so picked up on here. nobody who heard the singles seriously thought Dula was gonna serve us trip hop.

A friend of mine has done the review for Line Of Best Fit and the comments section is/was an absolute fucking binfire.

yes but awarding this album 3/10 is deeply unserious and surely invites a backlash.
 
Did I read somewhere that she had other tracks that were rejected, and they might have been the more experimental ones?

Maybe that’s what the announcement is, a deluxe alternate album with the other tracks added. She can’t win now though, if they’re crap people will say why did she bother and if they’re good, people will say why weren’t they on the album.

So maybe it isn’t that :D

The album isn’t bad it just doesn’t do anything, which in effect IS disappointing because FN captured a moment and if she had thrown in some swerve influences into this album it still could have been a pop album and would have been received much better probably.

The fanz seem to like it. But the sort of fanz who shred reviewers who don’t agree with them aren’t interested in objectivity anyway.
 
Can someone tell Mr Impala that "absolute weapon" is not a positive in Scotland? :D

These Walls is GREAT. Despite the vocal straining going on.
 
I really enjoy this album.

Falling Forever sounds like pure Gaga though
 
I actually can't cope with the straining vox so I'm gonna take These Walls and run
 
nobody asked me but, I've listed twice and it's JUST OK? Like, the singles really stand out and the rest is just there which left me wondering, what else could they possibly release if nothing else screams "single" (At least to me, a nondiscerning gay).
 
I mean it’s very “Basic Bitch Beats” but I think after her juggernaut run it’s fine to coast a little. Very poolside background noise. It works for me
 
At least End Of An Era beats Future Nostalgia (song) as an album opener but she will never top GENESIS :disco:
 
I think End of an Era should've come out pre album. the singles are really not representative at all
 
Happy For You is a stunning closer. it would have been top 3 for me if i weren't so petty... when my ex found the love of his life i literally blocked him.
 
The singles for this just never truly connected, did they? In addition, it almost feels like "Dance The Night" was so ubiquitous and perfected the "disco-lite" that radio and the masses lapped up that it became a bit of a poisoned chalice for this album campaign. She really hit a home run with it, catering to her audience perfectly - then she tried to deviate from the proven concept but not drastically enough to avoid comparisons. Having said that, I'd personally take Houdini and Training Season over Dance The Night, Levitating and Love Again but the latter three all really crushed it for her.

She probably would have benefitted from pushing this whole project into 2024 rather than starting at the tail end of 2023 when radio was still hammering Dance The Night.

Agreed, for some reason people seem to think Houdini wasn’t a hit - it absolutely was. It was a great launchpad to just go straight into the album.

Agreed, and then run with whatever gets the best streaming response when the album drops. Instead it's felt kinda drawn out and they made it more complicated than necessary.
 
If she'd gone:

End of an Era
Forever Falling
Happy For You

I feel like the whole thing would have played out much better for her and Houdini especially would be appreciated more in the context of the album (I do like it on balance, but it's much too subtle to lead this whole project)

And Illusion is GHASTLY. Terrible choices all round.

Just listening to These Walls since it got spotlighted during this week’s chart. I honestly feel this could have been an Emma or Geri single from around 2000. :disco: :basil:
