(The film was 2011, one of the few I watched the same year as released :-D but the film began production early 2009)

Sort of mixed on whether this is a sad song overall but I suppose so with the verses

Aw this was 2010-11 but oh well haha

I'm sure this was hold music for the GP surgery c. 2009-10 ๐Ÿ˜…

I actually discovered Maggie's version first (in around 2020) and later realised that it was a cover of this song by Heart, sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson (other way around in the thumbnail) ๐Ÿ’—

Aw, I didn't know this before today ๐Ÿ’ญ

I like both versions lots, I heard the Heart version on the radio earlier. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŽถ

Ah no this is obviously 70s but never mind ๐Ÿ˜…

There is this main version too, and I remember it was played before Sinรฉad O'Connor's funeral, she liked (and understood) reggae, Bob Marley. I like both versions but prefer the feel of the early version.

Not the SNL nor Bob Dylan concert version but same Sinรฉad's cover, awesome and thought-provoking. โ™ก

There are 9 including mine :D that seem to be outside 90s-00s (5 of which are 1989 or 2010-11 which are close enough). Maybe allow a few more at the end, if that happens before 2025..! ๐Ÿ˜…

Edit: let's do 105 sad songs.

Very different feel but again ๐ŸŒง๐ŸŒŸ

I think The Memory of Trees (1995) seems like the most sad -sounding Enya album. It's also the only one with no guest musicians (unless the next one is too). Favourite album cover โ™ก

True, not immediately sad songs but lyrically I thought they seemed somewhat sad/laughing in the face of pain-type. ๐Ÿ˜…
Then again I don't see Only Time as a sad song, but maybe this next one...

"You touch my shoulder / could you be colder?"

I guess this is definitely melancholic. And the spoken word refrain that then engulfs her. Okay, take it back.

That's okay โ˜บ๏ธ

This next one is a cover of an old Irish poem "Tรกim sรญnte ar do thuama" and was also covered by Sinรฉad O'Connor in 1989.

The breathing too ๐ŸŒฌ๐Ÿ’ญโ™ก
Eithne Nรญ Uallachรกin sang the vocals around the late 90s; the album was posthumously released in 2014 I think. ๐Ÿค

Saddest song/single by Tasmin for sure ๐Ÿ’” also her brilliant acting in the video

I think this music video was 2012, but Kylie performed it in 2008, written in 2007. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I kind of think of this Enya song as (lyrically) the closest one to the next song
Enya mentions Dido

Enya, 2001 (from this)
That was before Dido released White Flag, Enya probably liked Thank You in particular. ๐Ÿš๏ธ๐ŸŽถโ™ก

Before discovering Enya, I often considered Robbie as my favourite artist โ˜บ๏ธ

59.

๐Ÿฅฒ (Also 26th August, 20 years since Laura Branigan passed :( )

60.

We learnt about the story behind the song in religious education at school. Poor boy ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Sad sounding tunes maybe, but thematically Amarantine seems more sad.
Favourite sad Enya song ๐Ÿฅฒ๐Ÿ’ญโ™ก
That one feels sad, but Someone Said Goodbye is my favourite sad Enya song to listen to.
Have this remix edit too :headphones:

Oh! Can I invade this game, please? I spent almost the entire 00s being SAD! My holy quintet of sad songs that I'd have on loop from that era:

62. 'Maps' - Yeah Yeah Yeahs

63. 'Hurt' - Johnny Cash

64. 'Good Woman' - Cat Power

65. 'Lost Cause' - Beck

66. 'Skinny Love' - Bon Iver
