I've just been looking into the worst floods in Europe in living memory. It's amazing how many of these are forgotten. 700 dead in Portugal (1967) and 700 in Catalonia (1962).

But Italy said hold my pint of mud, river water and sewage, 1,900 dead in 1967.

Of course the 1953 North Sea flood beats all.

The decapitated man in Edinburgh last night! Gruesome and tragic obviously, and I’m trying to avoid the pictures :zombie: but I’m morbidly fascinated wondering what happened…

Police saying he got hit by a bus. How would that take your head and only your head clean off, and why was there no blood? And how did no-one witness it in a busy part of the city meaning the head was lying there long enough for someone to pick it up thinking it was a Halloween prop (before dropping it in horror)?

Of course Twitter is full of racists saying it was OBVIOUSLY an Islamic terrorist thing.

I've added a spoiler just in case no one wants to read what happened.

Apparently the victim tripped and fell. His head got stuck in the wheel arch and twisted off as it went under the wheel.
 
And yes there are images and videos all over X. Why anyone would want to take a photo is beyond me.
 
The lads lads lads thought it was a Halloween prop. One of them picks it up, seemingly realises and drops it again. The one of them just sort of squats over it. Teabagging is a bit of a misnomer.

I just don't get why it was THERE in the street knocking around like a football. Where were the emergency services?! Did no-one stop after the accident or did they all just vamoose?!

I ended up seeing a CLOSE UP on X. The CCTV showing the guy pick it up isn’t too gruesome though.

Inevitably half of X are saying that the government are covering up a terrorist incident.

So there were rumblings last night that something had taken place down south, but there was nothing from the usual social media sources (likely everything had been scrubbed immediately as is customary when major incidents occur), so I gave it no further thought.

Played tennis at a nearby sports complex this afternoon, and there were several HUNDRED security officers stationed all over the (enormous) grounds. Barriers placed everywhere, all usual entrances and paths very much obstructed. It took me an extra ten mins to navigate all the nonsense and get to the courts. Even with all that, I and my tennis buddy just assumed that there was gonna be some concert taking place at the main stadium this evening and this was the typically extra response to hosting such an event. On the way out we even asked if that's what was going on and were told as much.

Now that this has finally come out (it was almost a full day before mainstream sources published anything here), I'm not so sure about that concert, eh.

Terrible, terrible story. Those numbers are horrifying. :(
 
Apparently the same has happened at Chester Station and Glasgow bus station.

I presume someone is behind this astonishingly simple form of causing chaos, with very little effort, money or resources.
