Monday rewards with a free coffee from Gail's

We're about to get a second branch. I'm half hoping for a repeat of the Tesco Riot of 2011.

I was really excited about one opening here, its OK but I've not rushed back. I opt to buy my wanky sourdough from a local company instead.

Yeah we have an artisan bread market stand in town which is EXCELLENT.

Their cheese, garlic and olive foccacias are incredible.

Very much what ron says. Support the market instead.

I can't say I haven't been tempted by the first branch here, but I've had pangs of guilt and gone to local indies instead. The second one is opening on a main road where their nearest competition will be Nero & Starbucks for coffee and Sainsbury's & M&S for bread, so they can fight it out amongst themselves without my concern.

I went from nought to fuming within a couple of minutes of returning to work. Some people really can't do a THING for themselves.

Bristol has a real luxury of independent stores.

Sadly very few thrive round here, although we have a pretty decent market spread around the centre, which I increasingly use. There are some excellent fruit and veg stands.

I’ve got an absolute arsehole of a cold. Which isn’t fair, I ate so many oranges last week!

My main issue with Gail's is the very bland and overly lit decor. For such a "premium" brand, they seem determined to style themselves after a 1990s department store café.

I'm less clued up on their EVIL credentials?

Where do Paul's Patisserie stand on the EVIL hierarchy? I've had a lovely brioche from there today, and I'd hate to feel I'd supported genocide or Reform UK or something

Only in specific areas really. In most of the city it's pretty generic like a lot of places.

But that only makes me (and a lot of people - hence the Tesco riot) more annoyed when the chains and multinationals drive the indies out of business.

My favourite cafe here has two branches. Costa opened right next door to one, and very recently Starbucks a few doors along from another. It makes me sad when I see them full and my favourite one struggling.

The southside of Glasgow is developing a rich tradition of cool lil cafes opening, the owners being entitled wankers and then they close.

Just been approached in town by someone asking if I could sort them with cocaine. At my age!

No, I offered him some harm reduction leaflets and asked if he wanted to be trained in administering narcan/naloxone, and sent him on his way.

Never mind GAILS look what ELLESMERE PORT still has

Mr S and his THERAPIST went in for a coffee JUST THIS AFTERNOON. Like the 1950s NEVER ENDED

It's everything I imagined the Wirral to be

I particularly enjoy their using the same floor tiling as public lavatories
