New single coming September 19th.

Seems to be picking up a fair bit of coverage having been written about her battle with Lyme disease.

I’d expected a comeback to fly completely under the radar - which, in fairness, it still might.

I noticed there was coverage on the BBC website today about it

The artwork ( :david: ) is on point:

I do hope it’s good though, but I fear her trying to be SINCERE and RAW will result in something drab and screechy because she has neither the depth nor range.

bless April

Top 5 off the top of my head
1. Fall To Pieces
2. My Heppy Ending
3. Hot
4. Here's To Never Growing Up
5. Anything but ordinary/Mobile

Yes, I suspect this is going to be another ‘Goodbye Lullaby’.

Which is a shame because I thought the last album was quite good, on the whole. Ignoring ‘Hello Kitty’ of course.

Great to see Melissa make a comeback after almost dying for the second time.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be too serious singer/songwritery but im tentatively ON BOARD

I know she's relied on the NOVELTY shtick for pretty much every album but I actually think she should have FULLY EMBRACED the lunacy and titled the album MELISSA

It's a shame fellow PUNK ROCK ICON P!nk took it, because 'I'm Not Dead' would work great.

Sounds like it'll be one of her best vocals if nothing else. Her voice sounds sensational.

Lyrics seem a bit trite but can you really begrudge her that after all the shit she's been through?

I'm always on board for new Avril.

First 2 albums were my jamz and there's plenty to like in the other 3 as well. I would embrace something a bit more singer-songwritery this time though. There's a lot of nostalgia for 00's emo pop at the moment so the time's right for her to embrace that.

I'm still waiting for a sequel to Sk8tr Boi; I'd LOVE to know what he's up to these days. Is he still even alive though? She could call it something short and sweet like Unemployed Deadbeat Rehab Guy.

Also, the OCC have published her top 10 tracks in the UK, although annoyingly they now include streaming data:

1. Complicated
2. Girlfriend
3. Sk8er Boi
4. When You're Gone
5. I'm With You
6. What The Hell
7. My Happy Ending
8. Here's To Never Growing Up
9. Don't Tell Me
10. Keep Holding On

Purely on sales, Girlfriend is her biggest seller.

The chorus is a bit of a let down after that build up but it’s good. Her voice is actually sounding great.

I really like it.

It's hard to gauge how it'll fare - Avril's never really been around to be affected by streaming, and certainly the OCC suggest her material racks up quite a lot of plays.

If this was a decade ago, I'd think it would quite comfortably perform just as well as 'When You're Gone'.

Actually quite disappointed by this after all the buzz about it being a return to form. It's a bit Ryan Tedder-does-The-Greatest-Showman for me.

Sounds like something that could be a sort of hit for her though so that's nice at least.

God, this is really fucking good. That chorus is towering.

In other news, Hot is still the tits.

YOU'RE SO FABULOUS
YOU'RE SO GOOD TO ME :disco:

Number 9 on iTunes...never saw that coming

The Best Damn Thing was by FAR her best album. There isnt a bad song on it. It's so strange that she hasnt released a single thing good since.

I always forgot just how good Wish You Were Here is. Just a straightforwardly fucking great pop song. She really screwed up not releasing that as lead/second single.

I'm not hearing what you guys are. Wish You Were Here is bang average and just sounds like a much poorer version of Innocence.

Wish You Were Here, I Love You, Smile, Push, Let Me Go, and Give You What You Like are all pretty fucking incredible.

I like HAB but I hate that she ruins the chorus with referencing her imaginary friend #cantrelate I do hope the rest of the album has the same vibe, though.

those wailings in the background get me EVERYTIME

Snap.

Listening to a few of the tracks from Goodbye Lullaby, I think if Push had Wish You Were Here's middle-eight, it would be the most pleasing outcome.

Add me to the "Push", "Wish You Were Here", "Smile" fan club. The only song on the last album that got my attention was "Give You What You Like" - what a beautiful song that is.

Avril Top 10 - In no particular order:

Tomorrow
Mobile
Slipped Away
Give You What You Like
Together
Nobody's Home
Anything but Ordinary
Complicated
Keep Holding On
Fall to Pieces

The first two albums are incredible

A tad too much caterwauling, but vocally she hasn't been hitting this hard in a while.

Avril was a hallmark of my preppy but emo childhood. Sk8ter Boi, Complicated, My Happy Ending, Innocence, Hot, Girlfriend were such bangers. Here's To Never Growing Up was the most recent hit I enjoyed. Of course, When You're Gone is my personal favourite

After 5 days, this is still #2 on US itunes. Usually new releases drop a lot faster than that. Streaming is doing neither great nor badly (around 660k streams yesterday) but it should definitely get a Hot 100 debut which is a result in itself with no video yet.

This will hit #1 on itunes later today. She performed it on Kimmel last night (sounded great), streaming steady and the video should be out this weekend. They've played this rollout perfectly and the song seems to be showing real potential at least Stateside.

I'm slightly surprised by how HAPPY it all makes me, to be honest

edit: #1 now! :disco:

I'm really surprised at how well it's doing, we will see if it holds up to become a bonafide hit.

I never would have predicted that anybody would still be interested in Avril Lavigne sixteen years after 'Complicated', but fair play to her, this is very decent and feels a lot less try-hard than the singles from her last album.

Also, what is it with Canadian pop stars and Lyme disease?
