Awards Season 24-25

Sad for Marianne, it was always going to be a tough ask but hopefully she snags BAFTA to make up for it.

Thrilled for Demi Moore of course, but also, Academy Award Nominee* Isabella Rossellini! :disco:

I want Isabella Rossellini to win just to see how many times she shoehorns in her mum #ingridbergman into the acceptance speech

Every year I do the definitive list of where to watch everything, including all the shorts.

Will have to get cracking tonight. Some usually involve using a VPN to view the New York Times YouTube channel.

I forget, did Wicked not have an original song in Part One or has it been SNUBBED?

It has picked up a LOT of nominations though!

- although not getting in Director or Adapted Screenplay suggests it's going to be one of those heavily nominated, not many wins films. It'll probably win a couple of technical consolations.

Wicked should win Best Picture. There I said it.

That was the film that made me fall in love with Ingrid Bergman. And nuns. And ultimately what gave us :lolly:

I find this year's list mostly underwhelming. I was the same last year really.

I’m interested in all the ones I haven’t seen. Some more than others, but it seems like a great list.

in no way deserved though. the direction is one of the weakest elements of it.

We must have been watching different movies. I thought the directing was the best thing in it - the screenplay is so-so and the acting was good, but not amazing for me. Thought the direction was brilliant, particularly the first half an hour where every shot just seemed so perfectly chosen.

Instruments of a Beating Heart is ADORABLE. At first I was wondering why the hell anyone would make a documentary about this, but showcasing the incredible Japanese education system is amazing!

Incident on the other hand was pretty much just some YouTube bodycam footage, badly edited with some text up on screen. Left so many questions for a non-US citizen regarding laws for carrying guns, and didn’t even attempt to answer them. Why on Earth has this been nominated? Just to show how shit and evil some US police officers are? Yeah, we know that.

ooooo this sounds interesting!!

I mean I’m literally reading a book about the best education systems in the world for fun right now… 😂

Well The Girl With The Needle was the bleakest thing I’ve seen in a while.

I’m finding it amusing that Flow is being nominated for categories of Film Not In The English Language, when that’s not categorised as International Feature for whatever awards ceremony. IT HAS NO DIALOGUE.
