Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft (3rd album) (1 Viewer)

Listening, up to L’amour de ma vie now. Didn’t expect to enjoy a Billie Eilish this much on a first listen.
 
The first part of the album feels summery, BIRDS OF A FEATHER is so lovely and then WILDFLOWER is gorgeous too but an immediate mood switch :(

I was going to comment on how it is a fairly tight ten song album but a couple of those are basically two songs. I do wish the first part of BLUE was a bit longer.
 
Of course it's a decent album. She's far more interesting than almost every other pop star at the moment (aside from maybe Miley).

The synth pile on, during Chihiro is glorious.

I don’t think Lunch is anything special really but love Birds of a Feather. I’ve never been massively into Billie because I just find her style of singing to be quite monotonous but there does seem to be a clear sound evolution here!
 
53 million streams on day 2 is wild!

this will have great longevity. it's phenomenal.
 
Lunch is in a battle for #1 on both sides of the Atlantic. Will probably miss out in its first week in both however, to Sabrina here and to Tommy Richman over there…
 
The album is so LUSH

"Birds of a Feather" is my top pick, i think. every listen reveals a new favorite though.
 
My go to right now are Birds of a Feather, Chihiro and Blue. The first two are instant winners, they are so rich and beautiful and the vocals are stunning.

But there is something about Blue, the way it evolves and transforms and the story she is telling, it reminds me of Ameriican Requiem - in that it's epic and unconventional in its structure the way it twists and turns, but also artistically is on another level. Its early days but it might be the best thing she's ever done.
 
This is incredible.

CHIHIRO, BITTERSUITE, BLUE... are my holy trinity right now. But the whole album is a slay.

Our Big Pop Girls are really hitting hard this year. Between this, COWBOY CARTER and Deeper Well, I feel fed.
 
Radical Optimism and that Poets album... they just weren't the tea for me. I think Ariana's album was cute, but didn't floor me like the big three I mentioned above.

Couldn’t agree with you more, and describing the Ariana album as ‘cute’ is absolutely so accurate. Inoffensive, a pleasant listen but ultimately not something you’d consider a classic or be reaching for.

This has totally changed my mind and perspective on Billie - I wrote her off as a one trick pony but this entire album packs a real emotional pinch and sonically she is definitely exploring something new.

Was anyone else GOBSMACKED at the belt at the end of Birds of a Feather? I was like WHAT THE FUCK I didn’t even think her voice was capable of that! :D :disco:
 
Exactly the same as Lou. I’ve tried really hard with Dua and Taylor but they’re just not hitting. You could argue it’s because the other 2024 albums are too good by comparison, but actually Taylor and Dua aren’t even on par with their own work never mind other artists.

poor The Diner. too weirdo for some.

the album is super enjoyable as a whole. but I also don't think I'll go be cherry picking individual songs as near anywhere near as much as I did with Happier Than Ever. that remains her best.
 
I think Skinny is the only song that doesn’t really do it for me. I’m surprised they chose that as the album opener.
 
Nothing is touching “Ameriican Requiem” for an opening statement this year anyway

Or possibly any other year for that matter

Taylor (and a few last minute variants) ended up blocking it from #1 in the US with 378k units, and Billie at 339k. Still a great result for her.
 
Well she has a couple of Oscars so she will be fine. :D

Taylor is becoming the ULTIMATE MEAN GIRL
 
the opening is 100k bigger Happier Than Ever. her profile has grown massively with What Was I Made For? :disco: a reverse Dua Lipan experience!
 
I think Birds of a Feather could be the song of the year so far. I'm so happy it's becoming the hit of the album. it's such a breath of fresh air and kind of a creative swerve from Billie :disco: I don't think i could love her more
