Charlie Brooker's BLACK MIRROR

Watched the first two now. Utterly compelling viewing, and also as horrible as can be expected. Playtest took a while to get going though, i was a bit bored at the beginning.
 
I'm not sure what the message is with Playtest, switch your phone off once in a while? Don't ignore your mum's calls?
 
5 was my least favourite - like I said before, I guessed the twist in the first few seconds.
One thing that is a negative about Brooker's work is the fact we know everything is about technology in the future - so i KNOW that the girls in San Junipero aren't actually in 1980s/1990s and I KNOW there aren't zombies in Men Against Fire. So I'm looking for the twist in both episodes straight away. San Junipero at least had more than the twist going for it, but Men Against Fire it ruins the whole premise of the episode when you know where it's going.

It kind of felt a bit like modern Who or even Torchwood rather than Black Mirror. A great way to end the series!

I just watched Nosedive and while it was entertaining and well shot, it was nothing new. Very similar to the Miu Miu Beans episode of Community.
 
Nah Nosedive is brilliant - I think even more highly of it since watching it. Bryce Dallas Howard gives the best performance of the season.
 
Playtest was good, it made me want to call my Mum.
 
i enjoyed the entire season. yes, some episodes were weaker than others and you can't help but try and guess what the twist will be but they were great nevertheless.

i guess i must go back and watch the previous seasons - i hated episode one of the debut season, that's all i'd seen before the hype over the new one.
 
Of the first two series, I'd say White Bear is my favourite.

Of the new series, the lesbian romance was probably my feel good favourite and I've been playing Fake by Alexander O'Neal since. Playtest was brilliant in terms of sheer headfuck. Hated in the Nation was close to home and I hope we see more Charlie Brooker dystopian detective episodes.
 
Having watched them all now (i missed out on the series before) i think my ultimate favourite is the Christmas episode.

Of the first two series, white Bear & 15 million credits are my favourites.

For the new series, probably Trolling episode & hated in the nation.
 
I’m sick so I’m spending the day on the sofa with this. I’ll provably be sicker by the end but hey ho.
 
The first episode is quite light hearted as far as Black Mirror goes.
 
I have no idea why I stopped watching this partway through season 3 (around Playtest or somewhere) given it was pretty much 10/10 all the way through but somehow it just fell off the radar. It better still be on Netflix!

Episode 3 - Andrea Riseborough still has one of the most forgettable faces ever, I have to look her on IMDb every time.
 
First episode - enjoyed it, didn't think I would at first.
Second episode - felt a bit season 1, predictable.
 
Episode 1 has a great cast, Michaela Cole is a treasure.
 
Yup and had a cameo in the latest Star Wars as well.
 
I couldn't remember where I'd seen her but then I remembered she was the airline stewardess in Nosedive
 
So I've watched the first three so far. I'm not sure what my favourite Is, probably USS Callister, but Crocodile is delightfully bleak.
 
If I was to order them:

USS Callister - what a brilliant way to start the series. Fun and layered.
Metalhead - BLEAK AS FUCK. Maxine Peake played a blinder, pure terror throughout.
Crocodile - Unfeasibley grim! Her final act was just pure horror.
Hang the DJ - Not what quite San Junipero in terms of the AWW episode, but decent likeable characters all the same.
Black Museum - Good, but I wasn't here for a multi story episode.
Arkangel - Interesting enough, but as some had said, quite series 1. As if that's a BAD THING!
 
Watched the first 3 episodes...
So far:

Crocodile - Andrea Riseborough's performance is outstanding, but it's incredibly bleak. (I do not think her face is forgettable - I think she's like a chameleon and looks utterly different in everything she ever does)
Arkangel - this seems to have had a bad rap from most people. I really enjoyed this and thought the premise was the closest to reality. I also thought Rosemarie Dewitt was excellent and the foreshadowing of the ending earlier on was clever.
USS Callister - I guess this was the most original and in some ways the cleverest... But I struggled to care about the characters in the computer world when they were still happily having their own lives in the real world. I was like 'so what?'...
 
01. USS Callister - it all started very typical Black Mirror - simulations, fantasies, yeah. But then you start CARING. I'm not sure that I view it as a "good" ending in the way the episode wants me to though.
02. Hang The DJ - painfully obviously trying to replicate San Junipero. Less successful but the two leads are very likeable
03. Black Museum - the twist saved it. Stories #1 and #3 certainly suited the "short story" format, but story #2 felt like it could truly have been fleshed out into a full episode in itself
04. Archangel - all very predictable from start to end
05. Crocodile - hampered by the fact that at no point do you root for or see any redemptive features in the lead. Not sure what POINT it was trying to make about the featured tech.
06. Metalhead - all style and atmosphere, no substance whatsoever. Maxine Peake of course is VERY GOOD, but it's still just 40 whole minutes of someone looking wide-eyed.
