France 2025: Louane - maman

Sounds like a bit of a potentially hostile crowd for a Eurovision song reveal, but quite the platform nonetheless!

Exciting for the french rugby players who are about to be introduced to a whole new set of thirsty homosexuals though.

Screaming about her parents dying for 90 seconds? What a joyful Eurovision entry that sounds. Let's hope she doesn't go on after Malta.

Hostile at the posho rugby? HA!

Indifference maybe

I'm looking forward to this one. They've hyped it up A LOT - let's hope it lives up to said hype!

It's the complete u-turn on strategy that intrigues me. Last year they were first to reveal their entry, and did it quietly over December, letting it slowly gain momentum with a few TV appearances here and there. This year they're last with something that feels really big bang. They must feel they have a potential winner on their hands.

I really need this to be good because I’m coming round to the prospect of AUSTRIA winning.

I just cannot see Austria building enough momentum at all with the public. “The Code” had its irritating moments but also enough Bond-vibes and memorable hooks to be Top 5 with the public.

Agreed. Operatic entries seldom do as well as they’re hyped to do, Grande Amore excepted. (And yes, I know he’s not doing opera, just extremely shrill falsetto but the point stands)

I think Austria will end up mid top ten if not even slightly lower.

My full expectation at this point is this does the job and ends up winning. If it doesn't... it really is the most open year in quite a while.

If I’m wrong (heaven forfend!) and Austria do win, I’m not totally against it. It’s another one that would have zero life outside the Contest, but it’s been 11 years since they last won and they’ve really had some great stuff in the interim.

Plus Vienna is a beautiful - if slightly odd - place I’d be fine with revisiting. Moreso than bloody PARIS, if the French end up having it there.

I reckon the French would maintain the recent 'not in a capital city' tradition and have it somewhere like Cannes.

Anyway this is probably a new thread, but the ones I think can win if the stars align for them

France TBC
Sweden - Leaning towards most likely outcome, which is kind of hilarious.
Finland - Feeling more like a solid top ten, but I wouldn't write it off if the stage show is Käärjä level good.
Austria - Only if the juries absolutely rally behind it
Israel
Malta - no, I'm not going to bet the farm on this, but they've done absolutely everything right so far and if Netta could do it...

We've not even heard this DEAD BALLAD and we're already rolling out the tricolour carpet. Where was this energy when La Zarra needed us?
The UNVERIFIED SONG DESCRIPTION said it's UP-MID TEMPO WITH SYNTH POP - powerballad almost 80s sounding with a BIG CHORUS and that it's PRETTY GOOD!

Good enough for me! I am just very down for a France win. Feels deserved.

For some reason I've never envisaged anywhere other than Paris hosting in the event of a French win.

MARSEILLE :disco:

I’m up for how much this would PISS OFF the FRENCH.

Are we overlooking the Netherlands? In Jury terms, it's very professional and has a story, plus he's likely to sing it well.

Not seeing a massive televote in it though.

I really don't see the Netherlands picking up a significant enough televote at all to challenge.

I wouldn’t necessarily rule out Belgium either. It has what it needs to get a decent showing on both the jury and televote.

The fact that the Netherlands and Maltas names are being discussed within a conversation about "who might win" really is testament to how lacking in big moments this year is.

I wouldn't even say it's a bad edition, just extremely middling.

Remember though that France does have a tendency to overplay its hand slightly. Remember the hype they created around the La Zarra reveal? And they shut the Eiffel bloody Tower to film Tom Leeb’s song reveal.

Whereas Voila was chosen in a fairly run of the mill national final and Mon Amour was just casually flung out onto streaming in mid-November.

I’m just very very cautiously observing the build-up to this.

There's always an act that gets selected early in the season with at least some hype that gets forgotten about as the contest approaches but ends up slaying - and that's totally the vibe I'm getting from Belgium!
