House of the Dragon (GoT Prequel)

"Ser Criston - bring me the eye of Lucerys Valaryon!" :D :D :D

that line made me scream so hard I legit had to pause the episode. I loved it. THE SCENE as it shall henceforth be known was SO juicy and so full of petty family theatrics it made the Lannisters' treatment of Tyrion look like child's play. what a hot fucking mess these people are!

I also really enjoyed the dragon riding scene, and this was the first episode that I thought the dragons (i) looked properly believable in CGI terms and (ii) felt actually integral to the storyline. after that first 15 minutes where absolutely nothing happened*, it picked up spectacularly and never let go.

*I did note that Viserys calling Alicent "Aemma" presumably signals that he'll be losing grip on his mind as well his body before long. another random observation: Otto Hightower looks younger now than in episode 1.

only thing I'm unsure about is the idea that they managed to fake Laenor's death, but I'll let that go. this ep gets a Jarkette grade A :disco:

LOVED that episode. The build in tension and family drama was too much.

Eve Best continues to make the most of her screentime.

Larys just had his father and brother killed in the last episode, and he had about three lines this week, but Ser Criston Cole manages to be the just the total worst.

I don't think half the episode needed to be quite that grey though.

WOOOOW Alicent is next level petty. The iconicality is off the charts.

And not Aegon just not giving a fuck and BLURTING it out 🤣

Exhausting wasn’t it, hiding beneath a cloak of your own righteousness!

The dialogue from this episode is getting a lot of love online, and rightly so.

I love how out there Olivia Cook is, Cersei was generally always cold and reserved. Alicent is just raw emotions.

Because Alicent is so RIGHT. “Where is duty? Where is honor? Where is sacrifice? It’s trampled under your pretty foot again!

As it stands, I think Rhaenyra read Alicent wrong. She doesn't have a pretense of self-righteousness. She's too BASIC for that. I think Alicent genuinely just wants everyone to 'play by the rules', which is why she feels guilt and confesses her errors. FOR NOW.

Cuz Daddy Hightower's gone a bit rotten and slowly charming her to the dark side, after rebuking her for feeling guilty. The producers are gonna serve her the full vile hypocrite Karen edit.

All this drama over a senile half rotting corpse saying the wrong thing :D the makeup in Viserys was hilarious.

Also yay we got Erryk and Arryk. I love GRRM and his stupid names.

I thoroughly enjoyed that dinner scene.

Can’t wait for next week.

The fucking STATE of Viserys. That court entrance scene was so corny, with that CHINTZY Halloween mask :D

I have such a hard time remembering all these names.
Was the blond girl at the dinner table the wife to the elder blond son?

the heralding of the King, the court scene and the supper :disco:

the development of Prince Aemond is a choice though

Forget the names. I'm still trying to manage the bogus ages. They're just flat out REFUSING to age some of the characters.

the throne room and dinner scenes were such a pleasure. Viserys absolutely owned this episode and it was genuinely heartwarming that he was able to enjoy one final happy family dinner (at which nobody ate) before the milk of the poppy had him TEAR THE REALM APART in his final moments.

I don’t know if I had too much of this milk of the poppy while watching to understand what was happening, but did Matt Smith dig up a dragon egg from a dragon corpse or do these eggs grow in the ground?

Yeah dragons lay pouches of eggs and he got one for the child that Rhaenyra is currently pregnant with.

I’m just watching ep8 now, not quite finished, but this show is going to win ALL the awards isn’t it? It’s just hitting the note on EVERY LEVEL

(except maybe for keeping us playing a game of WHOSE CHILD IS THIS every episode - poor @PercyPig )

That’s the only award it WILL WIN!

What a showcase for Paddy Considine that last episode was! Just hand him the Emmy already.

That dinner scene was so fucking tense, I was poised for another red wedding scenario. Glad they took it in a slightly different direction though. The hint at a potential truce between Alicent and Rheanyra, only for poor hapless Viserys to accidentally fuck it up in his dying moments - perfect. :D

Great episode for The Queen That Never Was too :disco:

I'm watching this still and quite enjoying it, though I was nodding off during that last scene and didn't really get what happened 🥴

A misunderstanding of sorts, I believe

Viserys mistook Alicent for Rheanrya because he was on painkillers/dying. He repeated the prophecy about how crucial it was for her son to take the throne. So Alicent believed he was backtracking and confirming endorsement for *her* son in his dying moments.

The series is gonna end and that old fart will STILL be sniffing on his Milk of the Poppers, sorry POPPY

Weird. I didn't even notice anything. Thought he was still breathing in the end, and no fuss was even made.

I thought all the fuss was made. It seemed very clear to me that it was his swansong. Also, it would make his declaration to Alicent a bit irrelevant if he woke up the next morning and was like OOPS

I think he’s a lock for best supporting actor next year.

Also it’s the first line from next week’s preview

Oh the Queen of Club Foots is back. Good.

(This is where someone tells me he was in Monday’s episode but dressed in a blonde wig or something)

Who is the Queen with the club foot? I always assumed it was that strange bitch that told Alicent about Rhaenyra’s nocturnal adventures.
