Mighty Hoopla 2024

I don't know much about Countess Luann but having Ar Di on screen appeals to me.

Good to see Rachel Stevens living up to her reputation.

*mimes spoken word section*

What parts of her songs are not spoken word?

Anyway enough of this, where is EN VOGUE and QUEEN JESSICA please. I except FOOTAGE

Omg Luann is going to be absolutely triumphant by the time I see her at her (sold-out!) Koko show on Friday!

Honestly it's like moopy is in a foreign language sometimes.

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE

Am I even GAY?
I usually assume it's Real Housewives related if I don't get the reference.

Apparently there are gay men who don't watch Drag Race as well. Fuck knows how they cope.

THE ABSOLUTE DRAMA of the Wellington Boots saga then turning up and there wasn't a mudslide to be found anywhere. I wore white trainers both days and didn't get a drop of mud on them.

Louise was delightful! She more than understood the assignment, so did Delta (Predictable x Hung Up full version now please). Jessie was great, too but rethink the ballad mash up of Hello, Love and Remember Where We Are, beb.

And YES, not a bit of mud today. Very pleasant actually.

I loved Hello, Love and Remember Where You Are in October, but it didn't quite work as well tonight - think she mashed it up more to save time, whereas in October she played the full songs.

So Luann was best and Rachel Steven’s the worst? Who else was there? The line up was better than that? MORE REVIEWS PLEASE.

I thought Jessie was better but I only caught the second half of Ms Ora's set. She was very good, but was having technical difficulties and was very clearly planning to murder somebody backstage who told her to cut a song.

She tried to do an a capella version of 'Anywhere' with members of the audience, but nobody knew the lyrics :D

Luann best? She was fucking APPALLING! One of the worst things I’ve EVER seen!

And yes, I’m aware that’s probably the point…but still.

How was JOJO SIWA?!?

She opened with her big (only?) hit, shouted how she was glad to be playing "London Pride", asked if anyone in the audience was straight, then proceeded to get into an argument with the crowd because somebody booed straight people ("we don't boo straight people. My mom is straight!"), sang another song, went on a ten minute rant about not having written her song Karma, and then to prove a point sang a song about the haters she wrote when she was 13.

At one point she made a comment that she had been performing to 6 year olds all her life and they were more engaged than the Hoopla crowd, and called English people SASSY CUNTS (I don't believe this was said in a derogatory manner. She was just pleased to be able to say the C word).

It was an experience :disco:

Looking at the line up I think Nelly Furtado, En Vogue, Rita Ora, Bananarama, B*Witched, Claire Richards, Gala, Shaznay, Michelle Gayle and The Veronica’s would be my go to.

Who did you think was best?

Claire Richards was top notch. The Nanas are always reliable but I thought the setlist was slightly misguided for a general audience. I mean, no one was there to see Only Your Love.

Cher Lloyd was a highlight. She was clearly really happy to be back on stage and in front of an audience.

There was a beautiful moment where Shazney spotted Melanie (Blatt) front and centre for her set, right before she did Pure Shores.

Louise bringing out Kelle was gay rights. Louise in general was superb.

Surprise guest Alesha Dixon was let down by being a surprise guest, had she just been on the standard line up it was great - she did a lot with her six minutes… but I expected the surprise guest to be a bit more interesting.

Nelly Furtado was okay but could’ve ordered her set better.

Michelle Gayle was a wonderful thrownack

Boyband V were so so good and such lovely lads when we met them, they had a smaller crowd than I’d have hoped but they were pretty much first on Sunday so… they did good regardless.

Delta was phenomenal and delivered everything. She was channeling Celine.

Veronicas were great I thought, huge crowd for them, could’ve been on later in the day.

Jessie was good for a Sunday evening, mellow, wind down rather than a high energy end on a bang closer.

This is camp.

Why does she say in the replies that she lives 3 miles away? There’s no way she’d hear it from that far. I live less than a mile away from the Naval College and can’t hear a thing when they have outside summer concerts.

Anyway, lots of local residents usually get offered free tickets to such events as a form of compensation. A friend at work lives right next to the entrance to Victoria Park and he gets offered freebies for various events quite a lot.

Jojo Siwa was fucking awful. I hope I never have to see or hear from her again.

Best of the weekend was Jessie ware for me. I have to say Six worked brilliantly there - amazing atmosphere when they played.

En Vogue were good but had zero banter and their volume was far too low.

Really enjoyed the House Gospel Choir and Rozalla’s 3 minutes on stage even if she couldn’t turn her microphone on for the first few lines.

Pleasantly surprised by Rita Ora but she really thinks she’s a better singer than she actually is and every time she tried to do an acapella bit it was perfectly pleasant but nothing more. Jessie Ware made her look a bit silly really when she performed later (she also made a couple of weird comments that made me think she was VERY jealous that Jessie was the headliner over her)

I actually am 3 miles away and obviously didn’t hear a thing. I used to live next to Victoria Park and the noise never bothered me from festivals with the windows shut.
