Tennis 2025

Not Draper being dragged through in 5 sets AGAIN! Only saw the 5th set tie break on my lunch break, looked tense. He can't have much fuel left in the tank for Alcaraz.

What a nightmare 3 rounds for Draper 😂 I can’t believe he’s done it AGAIN.

Horror of a match for Emma against Swiatek. She needs to get a whole bunch of smaller tournaments played against scrubs to mount a challenge to the very top.

Gael Monfils, pushing 40, upsets Taylor Fritz!

Amazing stuff for Gael (never warmed to Fritz either). Emma needs more match play desperately. If Iga spots a weakness she steam rolls the competition. Slight saving grace for Emma that this wasn't later in the tournament cos that would have been a bigger embarrassment.

Swiatek played one of the best matches I’ve ever seen from her, particularly for hard court. Unfortunately for Emma it’s now becoming a bit of a match up from hell for her - 5 times they’ve met if you include the junior meeting - and it’s 10-0 in sets:

Monfils’s performances recently have been nothing short of miraculous too. To be doing that at his age, with his play style, is just unbelievable. Svitolina followed him onto the same court and is pushing pretty hard against the 4th seed Pasolini too - would be amazing if both of them could beat the 4th seed on the same court on the same day (though I love Paolini and don’t really want to see her go out either).

Fritz did earn some goodwill points last year for dumping Zverev out of 2 slams though.

I like Fritz to be honest, but Monfils is a legend

Svitolina did it too!!

Sad that Jack had to pull out against Alcaraz :(

All the long matches took their toll, but hopefully it's only minor or a precaution as the mental strength he showed during the rest of the tournament bodes well for the rest of the year.

Sexy Tommy Paul absolutely MURDERED Davidovich-Fokina 6-1 6-1 6-1. Now do the same to evil Zverev in the next round bbz :disco:

Sexy Tommy Paul pushed Zverev hard for 3 sets but it wasn't enough :( Hopefully Alcaraz or Djokovic take him out next round.

BFFs Sabs & Badosa will face each other in the semifinals :o

Djokovic dumps Alcaraz out in four :o he'll play Zverev in the semi. the chunk I saw was not the highest quality tennis but Novak looked good.

Djokovic really turned it around by taking the ball much earlier than usual and being more aggressive but Carlos was a tad all over the place.

Badosa is very warm on court but some of the off court stuff with her is very juvenile and a bit mean girls. She’s become pretty irritating.

Semi final lineups completed after Sinner obliterated DeMinaur.

Sinner vs Shelton
Djokovic vs Zverev

Sabalenka vs Badosa
Keys 🔑 vs Swiatek

British interest remains in the men's doubles semifinals with Henry Patten, but he lost in mixed semifinal partnering Olivia Nicholls today.

that's a great semis line up across the board. :disco: will watch both women's games for sure

I haven't seen Sabalenka yet this tournament - is she at peak form?

Not peak form - she was pushed hard by Pavs in the last round. If Badosa is ever going to beat her BFF in a big match this is the opportunity (I think Sabs will prevail though).

Iga has barely dropped games this tournament but a Sabs final will be the true test of how much she's improved on a hard court.

Ollie Bonding and Hannah Klugman both also in the Junior doubles tournaments. Two hot prospects for British tennis in the future.

Would also be more interested to see Aryna/Iga final... You'd expect Sabs to have the hardcourt edge but Swiatek is undefeated in Slam finals. As already said, a rivalry is good for the game and this has been missing on the women's side for a lonnng time.

These hard courts in Melbourne are playing very slow which kinda explains Iga’s scorelines (as well as her good play of course) and probably why Aryna has been messy here and there. Keys has had a great run on them with her game style which would favour something faster.

Aryna looks so strong and dominant in this match, Badosa doesn't have the answers. her serve is crumbling this second set.

Relentless from Sabs - upping her level this tournament at the right time. Paula had a good start but just couldn't keep it up.

Hopefully Iga can keep up her end of the bargain now & we get a long awaited slam final between them. With both in form, it's potentially a classic match.

Badosa isn’t a good enough mover to threaten Sabalenka when it matters, that’s why Gauff would have been a more fun match up.

third set has been a classic. gutted that Keys seems to have fallen off a bit right at the death.

If Mads plays like this every match, she's top 5 with a few Grand Slam trophies on the mantelpiece.

Gut-wrenching loss for Iga, one point away. She played her part in a classic match. Still no Sabs Swiatek slam final...

Mads in peak form is very capable of going toe-to-toe with Sabs. I'm rooting for her to fulfill the expectations put on her as a teenager & win the title.

The only thing I don't want to see is a repeat of the ghastly US Open final Mads played against Sloane.

I think slightly less pressure for Maddie not being in front of a home crowd will make this a better opportunity for her to win a slam, but I still think Sabs has the edge.

God the final 3 in the men’s game are really difficult to root for. I guess I want Sinner to win but barely.

Would be happy with either of the women winning for different reasons, but have a feeling it will be a rollover with Sabalenka winning it easily.

At least the women's doubles final consists of four FABULOUS players 😍 I'm happy with whoever wins:

Katerina Siniakova/Taylor Townsend vs Su-Wei Hsieh/Jelena Ostapenko

Don't forget Mads was up 6-0 5-4 against Sabs in the US Open 2023 semis & went up a break again in the 3rd. She collapsed then, but if she exhibits the same mental strength that she did against Iga, she can finish it off this time.

*hopelessly optimistic*
