Howdy disco citizens.

I have precious little to say for myself thus far today (and there was much rejoicing).

Payday tomorrow tho'.

World Book Day today.

I hate fancy dress with a passion. I am so loathe to spend money on something you'll wear once. Anyway my crafty skills came in handy as we sent Kylie to nursery dressed as Thor.

Of course he kept the helmet on and held the hammer for about 3 seconds before getting bored of it.

i Wish it were payday tomorrow for me too :(

Being paid every 4 weeks is wonky when it is right at the beginning of the month but I've got used to it over the years.

The bugger this year is that we were paid on the very first day of the 2018/19 tax year and will be paid on the very last as well so we will be paid 14 times in the 365 day period. This is going to affect our tax. Which is our problem, not that of my employer, it seems. Funny that, innit? So it seems we'll either get new tax codes or get a bill - no-one seems to know just yet.

My tax returns are a mixture of creativity and fiction though because I always leave them until the last minute and rush them, so don't take any advice from me.

It shouldn't really matter how many times you get paid, just the amount, I think?

Exactly. Doesn’t make any difference at all unless it takes you over the threshold into the next tax band, no?

Anyway, morning. Got up early to attack a third day of record hunting and can’t be arsed, so showered, got all ready and now lying on the sofa debating what to do with today instead...

It’s absolutely peeing it down outside

I’m trying to get my butt out the door to the gym as I’m meeting friends for lunch this afternoon*

*This appears to be the only benefit of having friends with kids

It won't, no. But we've been advised that our "annual" salaries will look higher because it will be 14 thirteenths of the annual. If that makes sense...

I wonder whether the fact the plumber did £2000 of work on my central heating a fortnight ago and still hasn't sent me an invoice is to do with the TAX YEAR.

A huge POT PLANT has become displaced owing to DISPOSAL OF FILING CABINETS so I've stuck it between me and DD

OOH I could bring in my CACTUS post-refurbishment and plonk it in the middle of my desk. TALK ABOUT SUBTLE

It'll be a nightmare for anybody on Universal Credit or tax credits, HMRC's systems have no common sense written in to them so any poor buggers on UC will probably find their money stopped because the system can't handle it.

Just out of interest, have you ever considered telling her to "fuck off"?

World Book Day aka dress your kids as a film character day, obvs. *deletes Facebook*

Aka spend a fortune buying a ready made costume from all the shops out there who are milking it.

Ours was made from good old recycled cardboard and paint. I'll send you a pic x

I remember when World Book Day first started and it was actually about the books rather than dressing up like a tit.

It was a happier time.

I vaguely remember World Book Day when the spawn was little, no dressing up but they were each given a voucher for a book.

We didn't have World Book Day when I was wee but I guess there were fewer alternatives to books!

An ex-colleague is very pleased with himself for having gone for Sherlock Holmes for his son. Fair enough but do we REALLY need TEN photos of him from different angles

In other, entirely unrelated, news, I had these today and I was PROPERLY astonished at how much like meat they were and how really rather NICE they were.

Does anyone remember World Book Day from when they were kids? I vaguely remember doing a sponsored read or something

Iceland have a whole range. This is the only thing I've tried but I was SERIOUSLY impressed.
