Also the casting is excellent so you are a doubly stupid prick. Soz.

I'm still waiting for my apology for calling me delusional when I decided to shift positive when Iistened to the soundtrack. CLEARLY I WAS RIGHT!

I haven't booked tickets for this yet because I promised to go with my sister and she selfishly decided to have 2 young children and now we have to work around THEM.

Honestly why do straight people even BOTHER LIVING?

This has just beaten Avatar for the most replied to Moopy film topic. Granted, most of them were from before the film was even made, but still.

I think @dUb first mentioned that there were rumours of a Wicked movie at some point during the Industrial Revolution, so it's hardly surprising.

I specifically called you delusional for liking the Cynthia riff, which I maintain is TOO MUCH and a BAD CHOICE

Obsessed with the little change on “bring” at the end of Defying Gravity.

Box office nerds are downsizing their predictions for its total based on opening weekend. Gone are the $1b chances it seems, $600-$700m seems likely now. Still good OBVIOUSLY.

The bulk of the international gross is coming from the UK unsurprisingly enough.

$114m opening in the USA. More than double Gladiator II, which opens with $55m.

Is that underwhelming (and under forecast) for Gladiator?

I'm no expert on box office, but I do expect Wicked to have more legs than a lot of movies that have opened with a stronger weekend.

It’s being reported as a big success for both titles. Gladiator II is under less pressure as it’s already done big overseas numbers, so it just needed to not bomb in the US.

Gladiator II also had a larger budget than Wicked :o

Is the reported $150m budget for Wicked just for Part One or both? It’s not entirely clear.

I'm sure I read that some were expecting Gladiator to outperform Wicked.

Gladiator has been predicted to perform well below Wicked for a while now. They both should have very strong legs though.

Yes, I'm talking some time ago - back when Wicked wasn't being particularly well spoken of.

Saw this again tonight, and the homosexual (presumed) next to me ugly cried at the Ozdust Ballroom.

And on the way out, I heard someone genuinely say "I didn't think there'd be any songs".

:nononono:

SOMEONE CLEARLY DIDN'T MAKE SPACE FOR DEFYING GRAVITY

Just for Part One. I’ve seen 350 for both / 145-150 for each.

And yeah, also pretty convinced this will have legs.

Cynthia's riffing works a lot better in context.

I'm Not That Girl was beautiful.

Ariana stole the show. She's born for the role and has willed it into existence.

The Dr Dillamond scenes and the monkey part were really effective and hard to watch.

The cast of the "Wicked" movie almost looked a lot different, with Stephen Daldry as director and Lady Gaga and Shawn Mendes in lead roles.

The English director and producer of "The Crown" had Gaga in mind to play the character of Elphaba according to sources familiar with the project.
We hear he and the "Bad Romance" singer even met a few times to flesh out the character.

"They had meetings, the two of them, about the character and who she would be. [Gaga] was essentially cast in his version, and then it fell through," the source said.

Mendes was rumored to star as Fiyero in the film, a role ultimately played by Jonathan Bailey.

Daldry — who was announced as the film's director in 2016 — exited the project in 2020 due to scheduling conflicts, Variety reported at the time.

Just seen this and I really enjoyed it.

Some initial thoughts:
  • Both leads were great. Cynthia is a very good actress and singer, and kudos to her for managing to make that lame ballroom scene quite MOVING. Personally I would have taken the opportunity to do something different with that bit of the story, but fair enough that they wanted to stay faithful to the text.
  • Ariana stole the show. She's a STAR! It almost feels like a bit of a scam that she gets put forward for best supporting actress. She has so much more to do in the film than anyone else. There's so much more light and shade to her character, and she did it all fabulously.
  • Despite all the chatter about the colour grading, I thought it was pretty visually stunning and it was only really during 'Dancing Through Life' that I had an issue with the cinematography. So backlit! You could barely see beautiful, beautiful Prince Fiyero (42). But other than that I thought it was all pretty vivid and the sets were gorgeous.
  • Michelle Yeoh's vocals :ToneNervous:
