What really strikes me is that a lot of the tracks cover the same emotional territory as Gaga's Born This Way album, (bullying, being an outsider, individualism in the face of adversity etc) but with SO much more sincerity and none of the pretension. (plus ACTUAL DECENT TUNES)

It makes me hate that awful woman ten times more. :Oi:

All I want to hear is Crash, the Richard X track now. I have such a MASSIVE HARD-ON for everything Dicky Kiss.

I take it she's going to release Yo-Yo sometime in November. She's done a pre-record for Alan Titchmarsh (OH THE GLAMOUR) around then so I PRAY we get it as another outstanding b-side.

I just checked the universal store website and it says it has been sent, but you're unable to see the date it was. I'll be emailing to complain if it doesn't arrive by tomorrow

You'll get it for Wednesday. Universal are true ABYSMAL, deliveries take exactly 7 days to arrive. I wouldn't have went with them but I wanted a signed copy.

I've just noticed that the digital version on amazon is listed as explicit (with 4 songs being marked as so), but the CD version isn't. Are there two different versions, then?

And I must share this amazon user review :D

The CD comes with a parental advisory sticker. I heard the word 'shit', but that was all I noticed.

Nothing was bleeped out, anyway.

I'm going to illegally download it. FUCK YOU, UNIVERSAL

I haven't received my copy :(

Seriously where do you have to dispatch something from for it to take seven days? I'm going to suggest they refund me and send me a digital download.

Maybe that DPD man you like is keeping it as part of a ROMANTIC (fuck) GAME - get on Grindr and ask him :shy:

I only heard the first four songs before falling to sleep last night (I wasn't hating it, but rather passed out involuntarily) and "Beat of My Drum" actually sounded fucking good and has been in my head all day as a result. I look forward to hearing the whole album properly later while fully conscious

Or good headphones.

I'M GONNA BLOW UP I'M GONNA BLOW UP HEY HEY!

I haven't received my copy :(

I'll RANK rather than RATE

1. Porcelain Heart
2. Lucky Day
3. Gladiator

7. Cinderella's Eyes
8. Say It Out Loud
9. Fish Out Of Water

12.Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime

ALL FUCKING STELLAR though. Except maybe #12, which seems RIDICULOUSLY out of place...

I LOVE her cover of Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime. I don't think it sounds out of place at all really.

Critical acclaim won't stop her being a MASSIVE FAILURE in people's eyes, though :(

Another 5/5 from Heat

Although it would be genuinely nice for Nicola to have at least some moderate commercial success I honestly doubt she expected it in the first place.

She got to write/release the album of her dreams which let's face it is a rare thing for a new (ish) artist on a major label and (some of) the gays are overjoyed with the finished thing (I know I am!) so it's not all bad Sheena.

I assume she'll do a small tour as well which I'm guessing is where Nicola the solo artiste' will really shine/lay her roots (for 500 fags in Bolton town hall).

I had a VERY PROMISING first listen to this earlier. One or two of the earlier songs let me down a bit (particularly with the ear splitting vocals), but either i got used to it or things REALLY picked up in the second half. I can see me really liking it.

I think Say It Out Loud is my early stand out. It's magnificent.

I loved it on first listen but it's just getting BETTER AND BETTER with every play (SORRY FASHIONABLE GAYS, the last album I had exactly this reaction with was "Aphrodite")- "I", "Say It Out Loud" and "Gladiator" are only JUST beginning to show their PROPER PROPER CHARMS

AMAZE

Strange that none of the press mentions "Porcelain Heart", though...even as an aside. I find it genuinely the best thing on there- though I guess it's one of the most "generic" in terms of structure so not as interesting to review.

Guess I've answered my own question THERE THEN :D

Still letting this sink in, but by fuck is some of it EUPHORIC

The whole affair makes me think of Kate Bush, Lily Allen and Kylie all thrown in a blender which is clearly a very good thing

MR SHEENA thought it was Lily Allen when he walked in and it was playing yesterday...I can't say I see it MESELF, but it's no BAD COMPARISON...

It was "I" that made the comparison pop up in my mind, but it's more in her tone/delivery than anything I think. And sonically, some songs are like It's Not Me, It's You on steroids

After about three or four complete listens:

08 Beat of My Drum
10 Lucky Day
09 Yo-Yo
08 Cinderella's Eyes
09 Porcelain Heart
07 I
07 Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime
09 Say It Out Loud
07 Gladiator
08 Fish Out of Water
05 Take a Bite
08 Sticks and Stones

Very strong album indeed, I really hope she can pull a solo career out of this but I somehow doubt it :(

Top five moments:

1. End of middle eight in Porcelain Heart: "Please don't... break my porcelain HEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRTTTT!"
2. ALL of "Lucky Day"
3. middle eight lyrics/delivery in "Sticks & Stones"
4. "Say It Out Loud" chorus, epitome of feel-good pop music
5. the way she sings the middle eight in "Yo-Yo"

Wow. This is an incredibly strong album. A little bit taken aback by how well she's done to get this sounding as good as it does.

Have we all heard/seen the acoustic version of Yo-Yo?

I think I actually prefer it to the album version - BEAUTIFUL

Same here am, same here. I definitely get the feeling this is going to live up to its promise.

So far, so very, very good.
