Can’t wait to see Cynthia turn up in the press junkets for Part 2 with one tooth in her head and claiming the Sheriff of Nottingham is tracking her through a whirring disk in her leg.
 
I saw this yesterday afternoon. It's very good indeed, but not a 10. At least yet.

People who have seen it more than once, have you seen it in both 3D and standard? Just wondering whether it's worth splashing out the extra for the second viewing - particularly when I'll be paying for four tickets then.
 
Have your audiences been well-behaved ? I.e. no singing along?? We want to see this tomorrow but the BF is worried about a Friday night having over-enthusiastic audience members…

I went to see it ridiculously late at night so the audience was quite small, but there were a couple chatting throughout. Also, somebody on my row must have dropped something so elected to switch their phone torch on and wave it about during 'I'm Not That Girl'.
 
My Friday afternoon first showing audience were annoying, but Saturday afternoon were perfectly well behaved. Then again it was one of the luxury recliner screens so they’d mostly spent quite a bit to be there. Keep out the riff raff.

The cinema was about a third full yesterday afternoon. I didn't hear any singing at all. The only 'bad behaviour' was from some children who were about 4 or 5. And I'd say that is too young for it, so I'm not surprised.

I think the worries about people singing along have been largely overblown.

Nobody in my screening was singing along, nobody I know has had people singing in their screening.

As irritating as theatre kids can be, they’re surely the ones who will be overprotective about things like that. It’s not the same as the wine mums at The Bodyguard.
 
Nobody would dare to start singing in Liverpool.

Amongst the barrage of abuse to sit the fuck down the most common shout out would probably be, “where the fuck do you think you are, LONDON?”
 
Very good. The last 30 minutes were amazing. Sagged a little bit in the middle but splitting hairs.

All the main acting was great but Grande was INCANDESCENT. Absolutely wonderful. I couldn’t take my eyes off every tic and wide eyed gape. She imbued real charm into a “vapid” role that could have easily been one dimensional in lesser hands.

A star is born…

…though I would wager one that may never replicate it again. I’d love to be wrong!

Wicked is drawn-out and bland in comparison. It might have been lighter on its feet if the editors had cut a subplot about magical talking animals, which doesn't add anything except several minutes of running time. And they could have cut Elphaba's sister, who is given perplexingly little to do.

Nevermind the animal bit, but getting rid of Nessarose? The character whose
death
is the catalyst for the entire second act and The Wizard of Oz? Is it too much to ask from a film critic to be aware of one of the most important and well-known movies in history?

He also recommends to watch Oz: The Great and Powerful instead (but can't even spell the title) ...

I mean, an opinion is an opinion, but EXACTLY. Has he not yet connected the dots about Nessarose? It would be like criticising the first half of Titanic for all of those scenes harping on about not having enough lifeboats.
 
Some reviews end up being so out of sync with what everyone else is saying that they sound like an agenda. I agree that an opinion is an opinion and not everyone is going to like every movie, but at least don’t like it for things that make sense.
 
Isn't that Nessarose comment a MASSIVE spoiler for those who haven't seen the stage show?

Actually, it's been decades since I saw it, is she also explicitly the Wicked Witch of the West's sister in Wizard of Oz or is that from Wicked itself?

I was reading about this and the consensus is that expectations of acting have changed since the early twentieth century from escapism to realism.

They’re not just any old shoes though. In the fourth L Frank Baum book he mentions that she got them in a sale.
