Eastenders 2023

I have a hunch.

We’ve seen Cindy tell George that Lucy’s death was “a terrible accident” and we’ve seen Ian tell Bobby that she “forgives him.”

We haven’t had a Cindy and Bobby scene yet, so my guess is it will become clear at the end of tomorrow’s episode that she’s actually back with Ian to play the long game and get revenge on Bobby for Lucy’s death.

WOULD THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY @Rita??

Oh yes. She clearly still has a flame for George as we could see in yesterdays episode and I don’t think for a second she has any real interest in spending the rest of her days with IAN BEALE.

There have definitely been a few mentions now of how much Cindy's been looking after Ian (and how he's taking tablets after his heart attack). They could simply be to establish that she has actually been looking after him...or they could be setting up a reveal for something more sinister.

I'm not sure what Cindy would stand to gain from killing Ian, since they're not married. And they've literally just dealt with the mess of Sharon trying to poison him. All the same, it seems intentional to have made the point several times.

Very grateful to the characters announcing who is and isn't related and who's tried to murder who mid-scene.

Oh it's simple. Everyone ever in the square is related and the incest puts the royal family and Josef Fritzl to shame.

Poor Lexi's parents were cousins.

Ben's Great Great Grandfather was also Lola's Great Great Great Grandfather

Check out this simple Mitchell family tree

Has anyone watched tonight’s episode yet? I am hoping for more of what we got on Monday and Tuesday.

I gave up on and off throughout the 2010s. But I do remember them getting together. It wasn't especially enjoyable.

POOR Dame Rita Simons having to put up with that :(

Alfie has form for this sort of thing. I remember there was a really regrettable pseudo-romance between him and Little Mo at one point, it was during one of Jessie Wallace's absences and felt like someone had said "put Alfie with ANY available Slater, quick!". Nobody involved seemed to want anything to do with it and it showed on screen :D

Least we not forget Barbara Windsor's married name was Barbara Mitchell. She actually married into the fictional family she was part of.

The Alfie and Roxy misadventure I think was born out of Shane Richie and Rita Simons genuinely having really great on-screen chemistry when they were working together at the Vic, and I think people really were calling out for them to be a couple at one point.

Then they were actually coupled up and it ruined everything, especially when Jessie Wallace returned from one of her many sabbaticals and they completely threw Roxy under the bus to get them back together again.

It's not dissimilar to Mick and Janine actually. I thought Danny Dyer and Charlie Brooks were fantastic together when they first started sharing scenes. Why can't people leave things BE?

This week has been FANTASTIC. And the closing line tonight, 'Oh, and I'm not Rose any more, I'm Cindy'... iconic!

Will HE die at Xmas?

I've seen speculation that it will be...

Dean

That would be interesting! And just the sort of surprise return the current team would do.

I have seen some vaguely convincing theorising that the Christmas death COULD be Ian, mostly based on the fact Adam Woodyat seemed to get plenty of other work during his extended break and didn't seem in a massive hurry to return. It's possible that he feels like he now has proof there's life after Ian Beale for him, and has agreed to return temporarily so he can go out with a bang (and also with a storyline that allows his mate Michelle to return to the show and live on after him).

Ian seems likely, he could fly into a rage for some reason and attacks one of the six from the flashback, they fight back and he either succumbs to injuries or ends up having a heart attack.

In amidst all the drama from last week, it struck me that Ian really hasn't been missed at all. Obviously he's a legacy character who links pretty much every era of the show bar its most recent one. But while the writing has improved immensely since Chris Clenshaw took over (the new/old Peter Beale has already undone some of the unlikable traits of the previous actor), Ian Beale still seems stuck in the past as a nasty, horrible person.

If there's any chance of redeeming the character, this is definitely the opportunity to do it. However, it wasn't evident there's any intention of doing so based on what has been seen so far. Get rid (again).

Ian has never been “likeable” though. OK the most recent incarnation when they contrived a whodunnit around the character took it to extremes, but he has always been slimy, tight, cowardly and a bit pathetic.

He's always been a bit pathetic, I agree. But I don't think he's ever been so consistently without any redeeming features whatsoever as he is now.
