We mentioned briefly today about arranging an upcoming meeting about whether it's morally the right thing to be using Twitter as an organisation.

It's hard though because it's treading that line between maintaining positive, inclusive voices on a popular platform vs actively using and promoting use of an app run by a horrible person who promotes hate.
 
I refuse to put any money into twatter for any marketing of any company I work for and have done for years. I also always recommend not having a twatter account if possible, although I haven't worked for a large corporate for a long time so that makes the decision easier. I would hate to have to be tweeting for work, it's feeding the beast for me. Hate everything about the thing.

I get that social media can be funny sometimes and also raise awareness in a good way, and I understand some bodies and establishments needing to fight against the ugly narratives that persist on there. Good luck to them. It's basically now Truth Social but with a lot more followers.
 
I know this says something about me but the most infuriating thing about that is the absence of a period after the E.

Elon Musk wants to, essentially, get rid of the block button on Twitter. Very reminiscent of when he was furious his tweets weren't doing well.


 
The idea of not being able to opt out of being served some of the HATEFUL SHIT on there is very much the straw that broke the camel's back for me. He is so intent on making that platform unusable.

I haven't actually tweeted anything in over a year, but I'm sticking it out until the US election is over then most likely bailing. It's not a functional social media platform anymore, more of a grim horror show I can't quite bring myself to look away from.
 
Yeah I've left my personal account live with a note in the bio I'm not using it - I've connected with a lot of contributors through there in the past and used it as a great place to find new writers so wanted any of those to be able to reach me on the off change.

Doing a bit of research last night I went back on. It's fucking dead. I think most journalists and experts have left now. The sad thing is, there hasn't been a coherent replacement.

I find clicking to see the replies on anh tweet these days and it's full of ads and bots talking to each other. The only "real" people tweeting are Gen Alpha gays tweeting about their oomphs and pretty much in a language I don't understand. It really feels like it's falling apart.

It's not been the big collapse people predicted when Elon took over, but a steady decline and it's only getting steeper.
