How are you likely to vote?

It did feel like Farage’s message would hit the most with its target audience when I watched earlier. And he didn’t really have any slip-ups (easy when what you’re saying has no substance but still).

I would be quite interested to hear what our moopy teachers think about teenagers

Can't we at least rely on the girls?

I teach Year 5 & 6 and some of the boys are aware of Andrew Tate :zombie: The majority of their lives seem to revolve around Fortnite. The girls generally are more into Taylor Swift.

I hope there are, at least, more sensitive little They/Thems than there are Andrew Tate followers?

They’re all very aware of trans/non-binary people and generally it comes out in sincere questions (this being the Cotswolds, usually things like “where do non-binary people go for their single-sex grammar school?”). I would say their awareness of Andrew Tate is neutral-to-mildly-positive rather than seeing him as a hero - but he’s more their older siblings’ generation, there’ll be another figure soon I guess. I did teach a boy last year who went through a phase of performing Cleopatra’s Theme every break time with full self-made choreo :disco:

When I was teaching during the last election I thought it would be fun to have them fill out one of those “which party aligns with me?” quizzes online and almost the whole class ended up with Farage on their screens.

:nononono:

I didn't watch this, despite being very invested in this election. This was mainly due to Farage's presence as I felt not watching was the right response to him being there. A disgusting grifter in the pay of some of the planet's dirtiest money who is encouraging the worst among us just for the satisfaction of doing so. Like the current iteration of the Tories, he just wants to destroy things others have built for nothing more than the pleasure of doing so. He's the kind of person who comes out to watch a fire rip through a building and then e-mails the council to find out what the plans are for the site so that he can oppose them.

He's been flicking through RuPaul's Yiddish word of the day calendar.

I meet a wide range. I suspect the fear that a number of the boys have succumbed to right wing tik tok propaganda and Tate is sadly founded.

But there is a fightback against that by I'd say teachers and girls. Yes you can probably rely on girls on the whole. More of them are socially progressive. In school I've never experienced homophobia from girls, only boys.

On the other hand there's another group of boys likely to know Drag Race references and be supportive of LGBTQ people. They tend to be more popular.

I've met Nazi kids and Trans kids. The division has been built into the next generation.

Reform's rise is a real worry. I know it's unlikely to turn into seats but, under my desired electoral system, it would and you can't have it both ways. It's easy to see it as just a kick against the Tories but, as we're already discussing, you can see a general shift towards authoritarianism again and I just didn't think I'd see that in my lifetime. Perhaps that's what allowed it to happen...too many of us thought it could only exist in little pockets and here we are.

I assume because it IS such a liberal seat, and there's probably more attention on it as the Greens may take it for their party leader?

Really interested to see how it goes for her, even if I'm sickened by her standing here (well, not that it's my seat personally). Looking at the predicted share here (assuming it was before she announced her candidacy at the last moment), where are her votes coming from?

Why did the Lib Dems not stand in Bristol West in the last election?

They withdrew in favour of the Greens as part of some Remain pact.

I'm sure the choice was made much easier considering they only got 7.3% in the election before though - despite winning it in 2010. It's a very student heavy population that won't forger the Coalition easily.

There was an anti Brexit alliance. Greens, Lib Dems and Plaid Cymru stepped aside for each other in certain seats to maximise chance of winning...that worked out well

I’m sure the swing voter who would go from GREEN to LIB DEM is the same TERFY MIDDLE AGED WOMAN without a job living in a big house in Clifton who may also vote for KELLY-JAY so it all comes out in the wash in the end.

I think it would have been a hell of a lot closer in that seat had Labour not had Corbyn. In 2017 Labour had the biggest swing in the country there, and I'm sure I've read previously it had one of the highest Labour Party memberships in the country under him, if not the highest.

For a long time I didn't think the Greens could take it now, but if anything I think they may do even better than polls indicate, because I suspect there are a lot of Labour voters who will happily switch to Green as this campaign progresses and Starmer hangs around the centre so much.

And from friends I know living in that seat, Denyer seems very well thought of.

I admit that's very BOOK OF STATS and among my friends she's pretty likely to be - but I do think there is a strong concentration of people like that in that area.

I'm really interested to see how the Green surge in Central affects the vote in other (small c) central Bristol seats - particularly South and East.

I know the first thing I do when I move into a new home is get my Jamie Oliver cookbook out and place it upright on a work surface.

The LIB DEM PROPAGANDA! I’m not a fan of them at all but the biggest story so far is Ed Davey going arse over tit on a surfboard!
